Ketone supplementation decreases tumor cell viability and prolongs survival of mice with metastatic cancer
International Journal of Cancer ^ | May 2014 | Poff, et al

Cancer cells express an abnormal metabolism characterized by increased glucose consumption owing to genetic mutations and mitochondrial dysfunction. Previous studies indicate that unlike healthy tissues, cancer cells are unable to effectively use ketone bodies for energy.

Furthermore, ketones inhibit the proliferation and viability of cultured tumor cells. As the Warburg effect is especially prominent in metastatic cells, we hypothesized that dietary ketone supplementation would inhibit metastatic cancer progression in vivo.

“It’s hard considering my love affair with potatoes and pasta.”

After coffee, those are my affection. Plus, my wife and I both love to cook. Right now I’m pressure canning black beans as I type this.

1,3-Butanediol has safety warnings and should be used with caution.

When I go the keytone route, I prefer my body to produce keytones rather than use supplements. However, the supplements ease the transition from glucose to keytones by eliminating the ketone flue and sugar withdrawal symptoms. So I only take them for a week or two.

The other reason is that I want to lower my glucose levels rather than just supplementing keytones on top of them. You must remove the sugar and carbs to naturally produce keytones.

I combine a keto diet with intermittent fasting. I found it works better for me.

At the same time I’m taking Serrapeptase, Nattokinase and Bromelain to detox and heal. They dissolve dead protein so they work against the keto diet.

I’m learning and always welcome comments and suggestions from those who have already been there done that.

I fast 5 days a week (most weeks) and do keto on weekends. It works well ... I lost 110 pounds in 2024. A little more left to lose.

My wife has some ketosis test strips, but I never remember to test myself. I assume I'm in ketosis most of the time.

Right. I will drink Diet Coke or coffee with Stevia. That’s all.
