A former Dallas Cowboys quarterback should be considered a real candidate for the team to pursue at head coach.

The Dallas Cowboys have officially decided to part ways with Mike McCarthy, who has arguably been the team's best head coach in the last two decades.

Dallas faces the challenge of finding a new leader to guide the franchise to glory. Given McCarthy’s track record, there’s hope that the Cowboys already have a few viable candidates in mind

One name that stands out is Kellen Moore, a former Cowboys quarterback and offensive coordinator. Moore has familiarity with the organization, which could make him an ideal candidate.

The Cowboys need to fire their GM.

Over the three previous years they were 12-5, no other coach has done that for them in that 20 years. I too was surprised.

I don’t think the Eagles can prohibit Moore from speaking with the Cowboys, or any other team, about a head coaching vacancy. You can’t deny a coach a shot at a promotion. Now, if the Cowboys offered Kellen Moore his old job as their offensive coordinator? That’s a different story. The Eagles could say “No.” That’s my understanding as how the NFL rules work.

Jerry should stop hiring Head Coaches and drafting players.

He’s not good at it...............

But somehow in 30 years despite the NBA and MLB Confirming that money matters the cowboys cannot see results.

MLB has a "soft cap" when it comes to team salaries. Not sure about the NBA, but there seems to be some flexibility there, too. The NFL has a hard cap. The way to build and maintain your roster is entirely ruled by the tyranny of The Cap. Jerry Jones throws too much money at too few players. That's his M.O. And the Cowboys lack depth year in and year out.

Coach Prime or nobody....

Deion Sanders... and Jerry Jones... in the same organization? That's two huge egos and peronalities. I would give that about six weeks tops.

The Cowboys will not improve until JJ hires a true GM and gives him free rein to run the team.

“Mike McCarthy, who has arguably been the team’s best head coach in the last two decades.”

Well, who else has there been in the last twenty years?

The Cowboys won in spite of, not because of, Barry Switzer. That team was so loaded it basically performed on its own.

Aren't the Cowboys a big enough circus already?

Where shall we begin? Dak Prescott is no Troy Aikman and they have had no RB to compare to Emmett Smith since Smith’s departure (maybe Elliott for one season). No one near Michael Irvin’s or Jay Novacek’s level either. They are simply not that good. The playoffs always reveal a team’s weaknesses, and the playoffs have been where they have been exposed recently.

312 wins? Are you going back to Pop Warner?

He’s 169-104-2 as a head coacklb in 17 years.

49-35 with the Cowboys. 3 playoffs, all lost. 2 in wild card round, 1 divisional.

Mediocre at best.

Go 30 years and Johnson and Switzer. Why 20?

Arbitrary. 49 and 35 with 5 years in Dallas. No playoff wins. Meh.

Believe me, I’m no McCarthy fan. He should have won multiple championships in Green Bay. He did get one but.... Why Jerruh hired him in the first place was a mystery.

Dirtbag. And most of his success was due to gifts from the Vikings and 49ers.

Correct. The Herschel Walker megatrade was entirely Jimmy Johnson's conception and it produced the Team of the 1990s. Switzer's win was like Bob Lemon's win an Yankees manager, with Billy Martin's team.

The NBA has a soft cap. The MLB has no cap at all, but they impose a luxury tax.
