To all my fellow Freepers who live in California,
Especially those in the Los Angeles area,
I'm monitoring the out-of-control fires that are raging in your area. My heart breaks for you all.
The scenes I am seeing look like a Biblical disaster. A small nuclear device would have done less damage. The entire LA area looks like it will be utterly destroyed.
I'm leaving out any discussion of fault, that is fodder for another thread. This thread is simply to wish you all well. Please remember, your life (and the life of those you love, including pets) is of paramount importance. Material goods, while important, are not as important as your safety.
As you can, please check in and let us know you are safe.
For those who have not yet understood how bad it is, please see this video, which is a shot someone took who was flying into LAX.
Heartbreaking. My prayers are with you all.
Thank God they are okay.
Just horrible. My brother lost his home in the Santa Rosa fires. I have a high school friend that lives on Palm Dr. in La Canada Flintridge. Is that anyplace near your nephew?
Ten minutes ago, my girlfriend in Simi Valley was notified that a fire has just been spotted there.
All is well in North Orange County.
Thank you for this kind post.
You mentioned that it appeared the whole place is going up, but the reality is very different. We get wildfires every year, and while these unusually strong winds are indeed wreaking havoc, this too shall pass. The winds are forecasted to back off tomorrow.
Oh dear. I lived in Simi Valley from 1993 to 1997.
We are praying for them. Thanks for starting the thread Laz.
La Canada Flintridge is nearby, yes.
Thanks! I was worried. Thanks for checking in.
100 mph winds recorded on ridge lines...
10-15% humidity.
Empty fire hydrants.
0% contained!
WoW!
Stay safe out there.
My summer time employer, evacuated his family... wife, mother in law, 5 kids, to San Bernardino, yesterday afternoon, before it was mandatory.
He went back for his 2 dogs today, then went to the Santa Anna Racetrack parking lot, to calculate his next move.
His home is just above the Jet Propulsion Lab, a bit to the NE.
PRO TIP:
Evacuate BEFORE the masses evacuate, so as not to get trapped in traffic jams.
Thanks for checking in!
Prayers up!
How could I not? The scenes are heartbreaking.
My kids are in Simi
The eastern San Fernando Valley here. Safe so far. Eaton Fire is about 12-15 miles away. Sure can smell it outside though.
Thanks for checking in, and if you can smell it, please take measures to be ready to evacuate.
I hope and pray they are okay, and if you happen to speak to them, let them know that our entire forum is praying for their safety.
LA being unprepared for fires is like Minneapolis being unprepared for snow in the winter time.
On a completely different topic, these are the same people who have voted in overwhelming numbers for the past eight or so elections for the most left-wing Democrats imaginable.
Of course, there’s no connection between the lack of intelligence necessary to produce these two phenomena, is there? 🙄
I lived in Simi Valley from 2002 to 2010. Nice little city.
One of them is a firefighter fighting the fire. I don’t know where he’s at
