NEW ORLEANS — Since a suspected terrorist attack killed at least 14 New Year revelers on Bourbon Street and injured dozens more, officials in this city rebuilt on tourism sought to assure the world that it was safe to attend the Sugar Bowl.

The annual college football showdown — postponed from the previous evening — was expected to draw some 74,000 fans on Thursday afternoon to the Caesars Superdome, and indeed, the stadium looked packed. There was no sign that, 36 hours earlier, leaders had clashed over the right time to resume athletic festivities.

“Your governor is going to be there,” Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) had announced, adding his name to a list of high-profile figures vowing to do the same.

Yet the state’s top law enforcement director initially said that if she’d made the call, the Big Easy would have waited another day. The sold-out game was being played less than a mile from where all those lives were lost.

Fresh off the devastation of New Year’s day, the success of the Sugar Bowl sent a message: The party must go on, especially with beloved parades and festivals scheduled in the coming weeks.

On Thursday, Murrill changed her...

In his 1988 book “Parliament of Whores,” PJ O’Rourke described New Orleans as a “high crime drainage ditch.”

I don’t much has changed, but now you have terrorism to worry about too.

Apart from the Sugar Bowl today the next biggie coming up will be Mardi Gras next month. I assume the police presence will be huge for that.

Jaws is like the wizard of oz. It is a must see. So much of Americana is expressed and seen in it. It’s like Die Hard.

The words New Orleans and safe don’t even belong in the same paragraph.

40 years ago, a couple could get a nicely-priced, getaway “weekend special” at the Hyatt Regency located near the SuperDome. One could safely walk from there, down Canal Street to Bourbon Street, shop along the way and walk back even after dark with no issues whatsoever.
Try to do that today in this day and age: one best have a entire USMC rifle squad providing protection.

I saw that camera phone walk thru of the Nawlins killing field which pulled no punches. Didn’t look real safe to me. Good thing Islam is a religion of peace though.

Just today I thought of all the money NY is saving not having to hold on Rikers Island all of the criminals who can’t make bail, and I wondered who’s getting it? Where’s it going?

Sigh. No Die Hard?

Ok. When you do see Jaws- or DH
No getting up for laundry, answering the door

Taking the garbage out

Sit. And watch

The when you see the mayor of Shark City in a reference you’ll be with the program
