I've noticed, as of late, the quality of the arguments on Free Republic have declined. This is especially true as regards the H1B argument.
I have no intention of rehashing this argument, nor the points therein. I am speaking only to the tone and tenor of our forum participants.
Musk did us no favors by being so confrontational about this issue, and may have inadvertently sparked the furor. I fault him for that. I see he's trying to cool this down now, and that is to his credit.
However, it is my belief that the Deep State saw an opening and drove a wedge into it, to separate people on different sides of the argument, who normally would be backing Trump.
As I wrote elsewhere:
It's kinda amazing that the Deep State can ring a bell and we salivate like a Pavlovian dog.
You think we'd know better by now.
That point aside, repeatedly, I'm seeing a lot of posters lately are being rather personal as opposed to arguing the merits of their case. That behavior sheds a lot more heat than light.
It’s as if attorneys were to argue in court:
Atty 1: “Where’d you get your law degree, you fat loser? A crackerjack box? Your client is GUILTY and you are a blind FREAK if you can’t see that!”
Atty 2: “Oh, talk about blind! I understand you are a faggot in your personal life, too! Do you molest boys, you creep? YOU should be the one on trial!”
Judge: “Gentlemen, can we return to the facts of th...”
Atty 1: “Oh just shut the eff up, judge, and play with yourself under your robe, like you always do.”
Atty 2: “Yeah, shut up, you twatwaffle! I never liked you, now I know why!”
In short, I hope that people can dial things down a notch and present their cases with a lot less invective.
I myself have been guilty over the years of being nothing less than an online terrorist, but I do now see the errors of that path, especially here, where we are all one big family.
This is an important issue and we need to discuss it. I suggest we at least wait until our President is inaugurated, or, if it is important to discuss now, that we do so with a lot less invective. We are not Democrat Underground.
Good Grief, if you can type that there is no hope...
There’s hope - Trump got elected and has some VERY SMART people around him. They won’t drink the Neocon Koolaid nearly as fast (nor be swayed by the State Department $5M Social Media ‘outreach’).
“However, the Deep State definitely leaned into the curve.
Our enemies are going to exploit any internecine fight that we have. We do the same to them when we can, most recently trying to aggravate any anger that Biden has with the crowd that forced him out.
Elon and Vivek are hugely out of touch and need to STFU. Too many Americans have been screwed by immigration or know someone who was. They aren’t going to back down.
“Maybe putting those two together wasn’t the best idea.”
They are creating a problem that Trump doesn’t need. They need to stick to what he tasked them with, the DOGE gov’t reorganization.
If they can’t do that without needlessly injecting their own unpopular ideas then one or both may have a very short Trump 47 career.
Thank you for your work on this.. it is amazing and I found out a lot of things I didn’t know. Kudos 👍
I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. I read it carefully twice, and the takeaway I got is that You are riding a tall horse and talking down to your fellow Americans.
I suspect we agree as to the severity of the unavoidable.
George Washington was chosen to lead, the Continental forces, the Constitutional convention, and our new country, on the foundations of his personal character in addition to his contributions.
Reading Douglas Southall Freeman's Washington, I learned about George Washington's interest in a book, when a young man, The Young Man’s Companion [published in London in 1664]:
The book’s title page proclaimed that it was written "in a plain and easy style so that a young man may attain the same, without a tutor." Included in the book was a list of rules for proper social behavior that had been developed by French Jesuits almost a century earlier.
The thirteen or fourteen-year-old George Washington would spend hours filling the pages of his notebook with copies of these rules, many of which he modified to better fit his own view of proper behavior. The boy entitled his writings as the Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior In Company and Conversation.
It's most likely laziness, ignorance, willful ignorance, etc.
Laziness when a court ruling comes out and almost immediately some posters start to claim this or that - and have not read the ruling / opinion / etc.
Eventually a link to the document in question gets posted.
Another is people using the deaths of others as grist for the narrative of "it's the vaxx unless proven otherwise". And when for some it's determined that it was not the vaxx, the posters using deaths of others for their narrative have moved on.
There's also a group of posters that it's doubtful would say in person what they write on-line.
It goes in cycles. Has for years.
Most people can’t think for themselves that is why the media does their thinking for them.
I agree with you.
Love that little girl... she’s got spunk!
So... whose had a McRib?
What? Nothing about intoxication? LMAO!
Does that make me Cousin 'It'?
