Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan earlier this month, pleaded not guilty on Monday to the state charges he is facing, including murder.
Mangione’s not guilty plea comes after he was extradited late last week from Pennsylvania, where he was initially found and arrested, to New York, where the trial will be held. He is also facing four federal counts, including a charge of murder through use of a firearm, which could allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty.
But while prosecutors have said the state and federal cases will progress on parallel tracks, the state trial is expected to happen first. The maximum sentence Mangione could receive if convicted in the state trial is life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

He pleaded guilty because he is proud of what he did. He feels he is a hero for the common man.
Murder is Murder across the board but the way this case is handled sends the wrong message too much politics and ego in the prosecution it’s fair to says that.
"Not guilty" and "I didn't do it" are two different things.
The Feds can get him the death penalty.
hang him first and then give him a fair New York trial!
If his defense team is smart they will plea “not guilty” and go for a jury trial. There are a huge group of insane leftists living in New Yuck that support this guy. The odds of getting a couple on the jury to find him “not guilty” are pretty good.
