MSNBC told by top exec to add more Republican voices as pay cuts for liberal hosts are revealed

The new boss of the media firm that oversees MSNBC wants more Republican voices on the network - and to move more opinion content out of primetime along with cuts to some high-profile presenters' pay.

SpinCo CEO Mark Lazarus expressed his desire for the new direction multiple times over the past month, seeking to shed the perception of liberal bias at MSNBC.

To accomplish this, insiders said he is mulling running opinion programming during the day, The Ankler reported.

The changes may come with pay cuts for longtime opinion hosts like Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle, who are discussions about their future at the network.

This comes weeks after the CEO is said to have slashed Rachel Maddow's pay by some $5million, after she agreed to stay with the network for another five years.

No, don’t hire Republican voices. Hire Conservative voices instead.

Sounds like the new CEO may have figured out that balance is not a bad thing. We’ll see if he can actually bring some balance to MSNBC.

Not holding my breath...

The premise and the assumption for the premise is flawed.

You presume the continued existence of MANBC

Agreed. By “republican” MSLSD means Liz Cheney, Chris Wallace, Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney, et al.

Yes. It’s a common tactic to hire a fake Republican like the fat cow on The View and pretend that she provides an alternate opinion. I was hoping that the reports that MSNBC was going to be spun off into oblivion were true. The brain washing must stop.

Sensible distinction.

You dont throw a cat into a dog pile. Joy Reid is unhinged. She can’t even sit next to a conservative let alone debate one.

I don’t know if the guy they used to use on PBS as the “republican” voted democrat, but the “republican” on the view did.

The Woke advertisers will continue to support liberal shows.
Conservatives are tired of silly advertisements.

They are too far gone. As long as they keep the toxic haters and liars there, they’ll have no credibility. Throwing a cherry on a dung heap doesn’t make it more palatable.

All he’s going to accomplish is driving off the few viewers they have. The current viewers don’t want to hear what Republicans have to say or they wouldn’t be watching MSNBC, and Republicans are not going to start watching. I guess you have to try to plug the hole in the sinking ship.

“No, don’t hire Republican voices. Hire Conservative voices instead.”

You point out an important distinction.

I expect this to be an insincere effort. More “Republicans” like David Brooks who will be willing to speak for “all Republicans” and declare that Joe Biden was the best president ever and that Trump is a monster.

On the other hand, if typical shows have actual Conservatives pushing back on myths like “Trump is a racist” and “there is no evidence of fraud in 2020” and such things, then viewers will have an opportunity to hear things they have not heard before.

He has the right idea, but for the reasons you said it would have to be done gradually.

There is only so much can be opinionated upon. My friend in DC got sick of CNN’s non-stop Trump vilification. News coverage is less confining.

Maybe simply non-biased news 6:30-7:30 pm, then 6-8pm, 5-9pm, etc.

I’m not sure how Republicans can be introduced. Perhaps a semi-sane Democrat can be found first. Maybe just after say Spanish Sunday programming.
