KFC Opens New Restaurant That Looks Nothing Like Any Other KFC

The fast-food giant KFC will open a new restaurant Monday in Orlando, Florida, that focuses on sauces and aims to give its “finger lickin’ good” slogan a new twist, CNN reported Wednesday.

“Saucy,” the new restaurant, will feature 11 new dips and chicken tenders in a nod to its Gen Z customers seeking bolder flavors and boneless chicken, according to the report.

The sauces, to be served in flights of four, range from spicy, including a jalapeño pesto ranch and a creole honey mustard, to sweet, including teriyaki and Thai sweet and spicy.

Pictures of what appears to be the new restaurant have been circulating on social media, with its pink-themed façade, a unique departure from KFC’s well-known red and white motif.

“Building on this modernized ‘finger lickin’ good,’ we came up with a new vision, which is a lot of sauces, a lot of color and a lot of drinks,” KFC’s chief concept officer Christophe Poirer told CNN.

The new concept would be “specifically targeted to Gen Z,” as such customers find tenders easy to eat on the go and customizable in many ways, Poirer also told CNN.

Sabir Sami, CEO of KFC Global, and some other fast-food restaurant leaders also highlighted the industry’s focus on Gen Z at a September conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Restaurant brands must be socially responsible as consumers, “particularly Gen Z, continue to expect that the brands they engage with care about making meaningful and relevant impact in the communities they serve,” according to a press release published Sept. 19 announcing key points from the conference.

“This has long been a priority for KFC and we are proud to put this into action in our markets around the world,” the restaurant brand noted.

Industry players have been focused on sauces as a “key driver” of innovation in the industry, R.J. Hottovy, head of analytical research at Placer.ai, told CNN. Saucy should “help KFC modernize its brand and align with current industry trends,” Hottovy added.

Saucy’s menu will be slimmed down relative to its flagship brand but will feature new desserts, fruit-flavored drinks and sides.

KFC will launch the restaurant against the headwinds of several consecutive quarters of declines posted by its US outlets and its struggle against increasingly popular competitors, such as Wingstop and Raising Cane’s.

The Colonel started out selling fried chicken from his gas station.

History doesn't exactly repeat...

But it rhymes ...

When I was a teenager, we could get a “three piece dinner” at KFC for $1.25...

When was that?

What was your Dad's annual salary?

This sounds like a reaction to Zaxby’s.

Cannot speak for KFC nationally, BUT... the "Original Recipe" in the Capital Beltway Region around Washington, DC is not the same as "The Colonel" invented.

Nutmeg or cinnamon are AWOL.

Blithering idiots.

It’s supposed to be kinda near UCF, just beyond the Waterford Lakes shopping center on Alafaya. Haven’t gone there much since “Cheeburger Cheeburger” and the “ 5 and Diner” closed.

My in-laws cook too much good food for me to even consider to sniff fast food until waaay after Christmas, like March maybe...

“KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut were excellent franchises”

Agree- I remember how good Pizza Hut was when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s. Now they are nothing more than cardboard + seasoning.

Never had Taco Bell before college, but it always amazes me how they can screw up an item that has nothing but tortilla + cheese.

Actually Pepsi spun them off into a new company called YUM, who proceeded to destroy them. They used to be owned by Pepsi.

Exactly. Only KFC could ruin fried chicken. I can’t remember the last time I went there but had to have been a couple decades ago. How about improving the chicken instead of covering bad chicken with sauce?

8 pc KFC = $20
8 pc grocery deli = $7 (homemade is about the same)

Why pay 3 times more?

I remember taking girls on dates to Pizza Hut back in the late 70’s. It was a hang out for all the kids then in small towns.

Their pizza was the best and they did not deliver unlike most pizza places.

Looks like a fast food version of a bordello

I am an agreement with some of the other posters of that real Fried Chicken does not require sauce.

Here in Kentucky we have lots of good homemade fried chicken at local convenience store gas stations, believe it or not. No need to consider a fast food place

When I was a kid, fried chicken didn’t have breading, herbs or spices, and was never greasy.........................And it was delicious!...........Especially if it had been running around the yard this morning!..........😉

1) $1.25 (Nov. 1965) ==> $12.44 (Nov. 2024). Current price of a 3-piece chicken meal at KFC = $13.59

2) Median income for men in 1965 was $4800. Median income in 2023 (age 35-44) was $67,756.

That 3-piece chicken dinner was slightly more affordable in 2023 than it was in 1965.

Since you’re holding your father’s earnings secret, you’ll have to do the specific analysis yourself.
