Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A woman who celebrated her 106th birthday at her retirement home in Ohio credited her long life to a positive attitude -- and a love of Fireball whiskey.
Florence Hackman, who was nicknamed "Fireball Flo" after her love of the liquor led to the manufacturer sending her complimentary bottles and merchandise for her 105th birthday, turned 106 Monday at the Traditions of Deerfield senior living facility in Loveland.
"I just try to be nice to people and try to go one day at a time -- that's all," Hackman said in a post on the Traditions of Deerfield Facebook page. "If you get that one day in, then you can go on to the next one. So that's what you've got to do -- one day at a time -- think what I've got to do today. You've got to keep moving as long as you can."
The retirement home said Hackman still attends daily happy hours with her friends and closely follows her favorite sports team, the Cincinnati Bengals.
I love that stuff! But I don’t drink it enough. Just once in a while.
I’ve never had it with Coke. I don’t drink soda anymore. However, if you drink a shot straight up, it works pretty quickly to get things going. Chase it with your favorite beverage (non-alcoholic drinks work fine, even water). A little goes a long way.
Fireball is pretty tasty. 😏
I’ve never tried the stuff, and now I’m curious. Mostly bourbon for me. Always said, “I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy”.
It has a cinnamon flavor.........
As long as it’s not too sweet, I’d give it a try. Does it come in glass bottles?
I don’t think much liquor comes in glass any more. All the bottles I find in my yard are plastic............................
Oh, sure. The good stuff does, but you have to buy a larger bottle. “ All the bottles I find in my yard are plastic”. Damn, I hate that. We have about 600 ft. frontage on a rural road, no sidewalks, but steep ditches. Always picking trash out of the ditches and on our lawn. Pigs everywhere. Tequila, Corona and Modesto bottles and cans. Tell you something?
Si.......................
“I’ve never tried the stuff,”
You don’t have to if you remember Red Hots.
It is a fairly decent throat medicine.
LOL, even by itself, IIRC, it is a pretty sweet liquor!
Yes, it is pretty sweet. Carries a punch at 100 proof. We keep a bottle on hand most of the time.
We first discovered it after we could no longer find Jeremiah Weed Bourbon liqueur, also 100 proof. I think they stopped making that, and anyway, I couldn’t find it anymore.
It was commonly found near USAF bases. Fighter pilot lore as I understand it. When we wanted to celebrate something special, we would have a small shot of JW as a toast to whatever the event was.
The candy Red Hots? I used to love those when I was a kid.
Hahahaha...I drink so rarely now-I kind of miss it! It does provide social lubrication when everyone is drinking.
Now, I don’t have the energy for it!
Well, the 106 year old woman still has a nip every evening. Maybe we could learn something from her! (Though, personally, I think genetics has a lot to do with her longevity.) ;)
I can get it in glass bottles where I live (Indiana), if I wanted it.
