Does anyone having any suggestions for a password generator that is either online, or other?
I see a few online free sites, but don't know if they are bogus or questionable.
I get tired of attempting to create strong passwords, especially when using a website that requires at least 15 various numbers, characters, etc.
Thanks
“Strong” passwords are hard for humans to break and easy for computers to break.
If someone is requiring you to include special characters and upper and lower case characters, they are behind the times.
1: Mjhyi8**^hyPP#
2: Mary had a 3 year old dog.
The second one is much more secure than the first. It is harder to break and you are less likely to write it down to remember it.
The second one is called a “pass phrase” which is here the industry is heading.
Geez.... How else do you handle simple every day tasks? Do you go to the internet and ask the first fool that comes along? Good lord, do you need someone to pick out what clothes to wear each day? Or, is this whole thread just a big joke?
NordPass
very good, no problems, highly recommended
I went old school
I printed numbers, letters and symbols on a sheet of paper.
About 1/4 inch square
Then, cut all those alphanumerics into separate pieces
Places all pieces of paper into an old pill bottle
When a password is needed, I shake out 15 to 20 pieces. Volia
Ditto to this.
You don't need a complicated password. You need a long password. Sites may have other requirements for capital letters, numbers, or special characters.
10 characters is good enough for now, although 16-20 characters is commonly recommended. The password must not be words in any language. A password must never be used on more than one site. A password must never be reused. Passwords should be changed "once in a while".
There are several online password generators that will generate random strings of any desired length to common specifications of characters.
Can you trust those sites? Who knows. You can always make your own passwords.
This is one site that does a good job of generating passwords. There are many sites that do this.

You will need to keep an offline document file of all passwords and the sites to which they are used. Or you will need to use a password keeper program. Have several dated offline backups of the master file or document.
It is surprisingly easy to accumulate 25 different login passwords on different sites.
Password Tech, open source, is an excellent password generator. Can be configured specifically for the required password requirements.
KeePass is an open source password manager and Proton Pass is another. I use all three and recommend them
Then I scroll through the births, 'til I find somebody I recognize, then use their DOB and name as the PW, separated by the "special characters" needed for that particular app. So for example when I got to Wikipedia for December 4, I see that Pappy Boyington was born on this day in 1912, so if I needed a PW for something today I might choose
P#Boyington#12#4#1912
That gets me a combination of characters, capitals, lower cases and numbers that for me is relatively easy to remember because I'll remember the historical figure and if need be, can go look up his/her DOB as needed.
Also, if I have some services I use that require PW updates every 6 months or year, and doing this reminds me of when the changes will be coming up.

For password storage I just use the encryption feature of the 'vim' text editor. But then again, I'm a N-E-R-D.
Make sure you write it down at least twice.
Interesting thread on different approaches. My employer requires a 15 character password for domain access, changed every 60 days.
Just type in anything you want ("The quick fox jumped over the lazy dog," your full name, etc.) and then use the output as your password.

Do not use Dashlane.com. that is what my computer guy recommended. It holds passwords for a while then drops them
Horrible. I don’t know what to do next.
Use: Freerepublic1234!
I use different passwords for each account and change them pretty frequently. I have all my passwords stored in an excel spreadsheet which I lock when not in use. After I make changes, I print out the sheet and put it by my computer for use. My son knows my system in case of my death. Works for me so far...
Dashlane.
I like!
The VA Veterans Administration requires a 15 number/character password to login to their webpage.
