Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci to potentially receive pre-emptive pardons (POLTICO)
Politico Magazine ^ | Dec 4 | By Jonathan Martin

Joe Biden’s senior aides are conducting a vigorous internal debate over whether to issue preemptive pardons to a range of current and former public officials who could be targeted with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, according to senior Democrats familiar with the discussions.

Biden’s aides are deeply concerned about a range of current and former officials who could find themselves facing inquiries and even indictments, a sense of alarm which has only accelerated since Trump last weekend announced the appointment of Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel has publicly vowed to pursue Trump’s critics.

The White House officials, however, are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them.

The deliberations touch on pardoning those currently in office, elected and appointed, as well as former officials who’ve angered Trump and his loyalists.

Those who could face exposure include such members of Congress’ Jan. 6 Committee as Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Trump has previously said Cheney “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” Also mentioned by Biden’s aides for a pardon is Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who became a lightning rod for criticism from the right during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Biden’s blanket pardons reminds me of the selling of indulgences prior to the Reformation. Don’t think that these pardons won’t mean some money for “the Big Guy”

Careful, Pedo Joe could order a Rwandan genocide and blanket pardon the perps.

Pardons should only apply to actual convictions.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
John Adams

We are seeing unprecedented abuse of power with 50 days to go.

This does not bode well.

“I wonder if we can bring this to the Supreme Court in order to put the Kabash on preemptive pardons”

this was already adjudicated when Ford pardoned Nixon with a preemptive pardon, like the one joe pardoned hunter with ... no limits on Federal Presidential pardons, except possibly pardons for FUTURE crimes ...

pResident Biden even gave me a pardon and I didn't ask for one.

He's handing out pardons like they're candy.

WIKI

In the English and British tradition, the royal prerogative of mercy is one of the historic royal prerogatives of the British monarch, by which they can grant pardons (informally known as a royal pardon) to convicted persons. The royal prerogative of mercy was originally used to permit the monarch to withdraw, or provide alternatives to, death sentences; the alternative of penal transportation to “partes abroade” was used since at least 1617. It is now used to change any sentence or penalty. A royal pardon does not overturn a conviction.

In modern times, by constitutional convention, the prerogative is exercised by the Sovereign on ministerial advice

“Pardons should only apply to actual convictions.”

My hypothetical example should make that crystal clear.

That “losing 5th amendment rights” is balony ... all they have to do is say “I don’t recall” as Comey did over 100 times.

He’ll preemptively pardon every evil creep in his administration, from fauci to Wray, to Strocz and Lisa, to McCabe, Schiff, and all 50 of the lying intelligence agency jerks who signed the Russia collusion “proof” paper. He has absolutely no shame. The only one he may NOT pardon, is Pelosi. And Trump will go after her for her part in Jan 6. He better not pardon that cop who killed Ashley Babbitt, either. I don’t know if it’s a federal crime to murder someone in DC or not.

Every last one of them will have amnesia. As I said before, whatever happened to judges who would jail people who refused to testify because they “cannot recall”? Or is that just a thing in the movies?

That’s not really a pardon. Curious. Can a President give a kid a gun, send him to go off everyone at a news organization but pardon him before he does it? Seems crazy but very interesting if allowable.

Why should he not?

After all - he has no honorable legacy to preserve.

I hope Biden pardons them all. Then they cannot plead the Fifth Amendment refuse to testify before every Congressional committee that feels like questioning them.

If they refuse to testify, then they can be prosecuted and imprisoned for contempt of Congress. If they lie, they can be prosecuted and imprisoned for perjury.

“Biden wants to cover all the bases as the Democrats await the pillaging and plundering by the man with the orange hair.” (Such liars Zhio's Deep State handlers are to put such words into the TelePromPTer script for Zhio to read and carry out!)

"The president himself, who was intensely focused on his son’s pardon, has not been brought into the broader pardon discussions yet, according to people familiar with the deliberations.

[Dementia Zhio] has not even been brought into the broader discussions yet!!
