Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci to potentially receive pre-emptive pardons (POLTICO)
Politico Magazine ^ | Dec 4 | By Jonathan Martin

Posted on 12/04/2024 4:07:06 PM PST by RandFan

Joe Biden’s senior aides are conducting a vigorous internal debate over whether to issue preemptive pardons to a range of current and former public officials who could be targeted with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, according to senior Democrats familiar with the discussions.

Biden’s aides are deeply concerned about a range of current and former officials who could find themselves facing inquiries and even indictments, a sense of alarm which has only accelerated since Trump last weekend announced the appointment of Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel has publicly vowed to pursue Trump’s critics.

The White House officials, however, are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them.

The deliberations touch on pardoning those currently in office, elected and appointed, as well as former officials who’ve angered Trump and his loyalists.

Those who could face exposure include such members of Congress’ Jan. 6 Committee as Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Trump has previously said Cheney “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” Also mentioned by Biden’s aides for a pardon is Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who became a lightning rod for criticism from the right during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I wonder if those pardons will work to protect them from vigilante actions by ordinary Americans”

Not a chance.

In the 1886 case Ex parte Garland, the Court referred to the President’s authority to pardon as unlimited except in cases of impeachment, extending to every offence known to the law and able to be exercised either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment.

But they didn't say that it can go unspecified.

A President cannot pardon someone for offenses in the entire US Code. They have to specify the offenses being reprieved, so they must also specify the offenses being pardoned.

At the very least, someone should go to a court to block blanket pardons until SCOTUS can rule on whether pardons can be unspecified for "any" crime in the US Code.

“Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney”

The pardon power doesn’t apply in cases of impeachment (IMO even to the prosecutors/persecutors).

How about street justice instead?

Not that I’d advocate such a thing...

They wouldn’t be seeking these pardons if they didn’t know they are guilty. It certainly doesn’t equate to innocence by any stretch of the imagination with respect to these arrogant, corrupt and wicked individuals. Pardons in these instances would be an outlandish abuse of the power, but with a loser like Biden trashing the office of POTUS on his way out is consistent with his sleazy history, which will now become his legacy. His handlers are now using his somnulent incompetence to fraudulently steal as many benefits using his name from the office and the U.S. as they can possibly pull off before January 20, 2025

Fauci could still be charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, etc. in every single state and, of course, sued into oblivion.

Trump on his deathbed shouldn’t be able to call on his followers to slaughter all the evil Democrats & bureaucrats in DC and pardon them all 24 hours later and just 15 minutes before his last breath.

Talk about abuse of power.

My GAWD, there are no words left to express my hatred and repugnance of Democrats.

I don't hate anyone. I just think the entire Democrat Party is a catastrophic disaster of biblical proportions that is driven by George Soros's dream (actually, nightmare) of one Global Government with no borders. That's the Soros Vision. He's the biggest funder of the Democrat Party for years. The Soros Goal is to entirely destabilize the U.S. Soros has often said the only remaining stumbling block to his dream (nightmare) of one borderless Global Government is the United States. That's why Soros has spent the last several decades doing whatever he possibly can to totally destabilize the U.S.

Money talks, and the Democrat Party is listening to Soros's money. Look at all of the Soros-funded far-left DAs across the nation. That's just one example of what George Soros has been perpetrating against the United States for many years. The Soros "One Global Government" Vision is exactly why you see Biden/Kamala's wide-open border policy for the last four years, even letting in tons of violent illegal immigrants. That is totally in line with the Soros Vision. Destabilize the U.S. And the Democrat politicians don't care because they've maintained their political power (which is the only thing that matters to them, besides their $oros Dollars). For Democrats ... communism, capitalism, totalitarianism, socialism, democracy, fascism, it's all the same to them. American voters are just starting to finally wake up to that reality. That's why even registered Democrats in many of the major cities have started to flip and vote for Trump. Not in as high a number as I would like, but it's the start of progress and an awakening across our nation. It's about time.

Not even one American should ever vote for any Democrat politician.

I’m missing something here. How can they pardon people who haven’t been charged with anything yet?

Kamala/Walz falsely claimed they're all about "Joy!"

Yet, Kamala/Walz paraded around the most dismal person in the world, Liz Cheney. Wow, is she a depressing person. I listen to just one sentence from her and I instantly get depressed. She's so glum. Glum Liz definitely doesn't fit into the Kamala/Walz "Joy!" nonsense. Liz Cheney is the exact opposite of "Joy!"

Democrats are total idiots. No wonder it was a clean sweep election -- now Republicans run the executive, legislative and judicial branches. (Cry harder, CNN, New York Times, and MSNBC.)

to paraphrase a line in Rocky Horror Picture Show:

Biden Administration criminals will all soon be running around going: “I’Ve got a pardon, YOU’VE got a pardon, we ALL got pardons!”
