Some UK social media users have been pouring milk down their sinks and toilets in protest at the trial of a new feed additive that claims to significantly reduce the emission of methane gas in dairy cows.
Arla Foods, a Danish-Swedish company which owns the UK’s biggest dairy cooperative, announced last week that 30 of its farms across the country would test the additive, named Bovaer.
The company says Bovaer - which is added in small quantities to cow feed - could reduce cow methane emissions by between 30-45%.
It has been approved for use by UK regulators, and several major supermarkets will stock milk produced by cattle eating feed with the additive.
Some online users have raised concerns around the use of Bovaer, citing issues around the safety of certain compounds used in it.
However, experts have told the BBC that the additive “does not pose any food safety issues”.
Other consumers have been threatening to boycott products from leading supermarkets in anger over the trial, while multiple farmers have taken to social media to inform consumers that they don’t use Bovaer.
Meanwhile, baseless claims of it being part of a “depopulation” plot have swirled online alongside misinformation about its links to US-billionaire Bill Gates.

They are more likely to use a chemical with side effects like being carcinogenic, hormone-disrupting, etc.

I’m personally in favor of this new cow feed additive.
Let’s face the facts here. North America was once upon a time covered with glaciers. Two things contributed heavily to the glaciers all melting off. First is was the caveman inventing fire, which caused glowbull warming. Second they domesticated the cow, and all the cow farts made glowbull warming massive.
We need this additive to save what glaciers we have left!!

The secret ingredient is added after the milk has been collected, like in the US where Chlorine is added directly into the tank truck collector (or it used to be).
In this case the farmers are correct, but they have no control after the milk is collected.

Speaking of sources of methane, there’s the ocean, volcanoes, swamps, wild ruminants, and termites.
Cow farts have to be only a miniscule portion of the total methane found in the atmosphere.
The only benefit this is going to provide anyone is the supplier of the chemical in profits.
There is if your goal is killing people off.
Don’t forget the vast herds of millions of bison roaming the plains for thousands of years. And then there are other ruminants, like deer and elk, etc.
The few cattle man has domesticated and keep don’t even begin to compare to that.
As this moves to the United States, I believe it’s already been approved, we need to create a list of dairy farms and producers of dairy products who are refusing to use this new “additive”. This garbage won’t just show up in milk, it will be a danger in the chain of every single dairy product. Imported cheeses...everything. Gates needs to be stepped on and quick.
