No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
You had me with paying to be able to pay. I've no interest in that. I won't join Amazon Prime or Costco or Sams Club because I don't want to pay for the privilege of spending my money. And it gripes my cookies every time I buy a new phone on my Verizon plan because they want a $40 upgrade fee. I can usually talk them out of it if I have the patience but why are they charging me money to NOT switch to another carrier????? Mrs. ArGee is afraid the other carriers are all worse or I'd have waved Verizon bye-bye-bye a long time ago just for that.
There might be a mouse under the refrigerator.

Well, I’m not dead. I didn’t realize those were the options.
I never used them but I’ve seen some auction sites like that for woodworking and other industrial equipment... seemed like a real bother and expensive just to try to bid for a once in blue moon item...
He needs to stop that at once! 😂
Literally just looking for a “doner” bike so that I don’t lose what little is left of my sanity looking at parts breakdowns of the bike I’m trying to build from scratch...
Plus... cheaper... in theory. Although, there is growing evidence to the contrary.
We are going to see Tecumseh shortly. I am waiting for the rest of the clan to find their essentials and be ready.
Tomorrow we visit the family cemetery and Saturday is the reunion. Sunday morning service and beat feet for home.
It has been a long trip but a good one although Youngest Cub says she is going to bite the next person who comments on how she has grown. That is what happens when you grow six inches.
I am now, officially, once again, the shortest person in the family
Yeah, that makes sense... sort of like getting some “sub assemblies” to work with instead of each individual part, wire, bolt, etc.
I forgot to mention how poorly the crushed limestone delivery went this morning... I thought that it would be a great start to the day, driver called early from the pit and was going to arrive here around 8:30... talked to the guy at the local garage that is working on debugging issues on an old Ram that we are getting back on the road... all good!
Well, the last 4 guys that brought trailers of stone had no problem pulling past the gate and backing in the drive... last one didn’t even have to have his tractor tires leave the road.. the others had to get up on the sand of the embankment across the road... but all got in and belly dumped with no problems...
Well, today was different... the driver was a very nice YOUNG man that apparently didn’t have a lot of experience... and he had this giant Peterbuilt with a super long nose and a super long back carriage that the rock trailer was hooked onto...
My gate is plenty wide at 16’ and it swings open almost all the way to about 120 degrees... so that is never a problem... but this young guy ended up with his rock trailer sitting about an inch from the one gate post and his tractor buried in the sand embankment...
I didn’t know how they were going to get him out since the road is a dead end and the wrecker could only come in from the one side... he had the road completely blocked...
Fortunately it was a light traffic day, the only vehicles attempting to pass was my MIL on her way back in and the USPS lady... she said she didn’t really have anything for anyone down the road and gave MIL her pile of junk mail... otherwise, not another vehicle appeared for the 4 hours we had the road blocked off...
So they sent in this massive wrecker with a giant boom... the guy told me that was $1.3 million sitting there...
Amazingly he was able to lift up the back off the rock trailer while sitting out on the road, and move it a few feet over away from the gate post... then he swung the boom around and lifted up the front of the trailer to take the weight off the tractor and the young guy was able to back out of the embankment...
He was sitting in perfect position to just back in the drive and dump... though there is a slight bend in the drive that needed to be accommodated... he could not accommodate it...
Fortunately the wrecker driver stuck around and offered to climb in the rock truck and get it backed in correctly and dumped the load...
I had never seen one of those massive high way wreckers in action... amazing trucks... I think this one had 6 axles...
He did what I didn’t realize was in the realm of possibility!
Big gear doing big gear things... I assume the gate is safe?
I haven’t been to Ohio since the 1970s.

Yup, not problems at all...

Another week that has raced by... Mrs. zz is leaving tomorrow morning to take our two oldest grands up to Nebraska to visit with our oldest son and family for the week... so I will be relying on my best management (and coping!) skills to hold down the fort...

Most of the U.S. is nice, even those areas that have terrible leadership. The beauty of the earth is not at all concerned with what we do while crawling around on it.
Well, it ended OK and you learned something - including what well trained men can do with good tools. I always like to see that even if I’m not one of them.
