No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a better Independence Day than we had. The power went out at 6:30 PM and didn’t come back on until Sunday at about 12:45 PM. It probably wouldn’t have been such a big deal except for all the dog’s food in the freezer. But yours truly saved the day by dropping a pretty penny on a Predator generator from Harbor Freight. Just as I was about to start unboxing the thing for assembly my wife opened the door and says, “The power is on.”
I would have taken care of it sooner but Harbor Freight only had one cashier when they opened, having not prepared for the rush of generator buyers, and I spent an hour and 45 minuts waiting in line to pay for the thing.
Ah, well. All’s well that ends well, I guess.
Anyway, here’s praying for another 250 years of our great experiment.
Now if only I can do this when it’s time for the next game of Wordle golf.

Did the freezer stay cold enough to prevent any thawing?
It is likely, even probable that the other cashier decided not to come to work that morning.
That absent cashier is typical of the American Workforce that is just not able to come to work on time or even come at all.
Also, I’ve spent an inordinate time checking out at HF even under “normal” conditions... with all the coupons, deals, clubs, and returns, they should probably have chairs or stools to use waiting to check out...
Either of you guys, who seem to know about these things, have thoughts on a Predator 8750/7000 backup generator? I can still return it and get something I would have chosen under less stressful circumstances.
I got 15% off but it was still a pile of cash.
I can ask my son later if he knows anything about those... I have a really old HF generator in the well house that has served well over the years... had to replace some parts over time, but it still works... it is a dual fuel and I have only used propane with it... avoids a lot of the problems that develop if you use gasoline in them... slightly less efficient, but much more reliable...
We lost the refrigerated food. We saved both freezers by aggressively not opening anything.
Yeah, our freezers hold for quite some time unopened... a LOT longer than the refrigerators...

I have a pair of smaller Honda’s... Never heard of a Predator, but the reviews look OK on it. Heavy, noisy, kind of a gas hog... But supposedly one of the best of the “budget” options.
Predator is Harbor Freight’s store brand.

I have an old Wacker with a Honda engine, great unit... but I wasn’t religious about running it dry and/or using treatment, so I have a new carb in a box sitting on top of it that I need to install at some point...
He could fit right in!
My son says that he has a neighbor that got one of those recently... pretty pleased with it but only used it twice thus far... said that the sine wave inverter feature is nice if you are planning to charge your electronics with it...
Yes. I didn’t actually set out to get that, but I read if you get an inverter generator it is better for charging items that need a clean signal. In this case, that was what was left.
But thanks for the review. My B-I-L bought one he had to get in an emergency, and it failed the second time he tried to use it. So succeeding twice may be a higher bar than I like to think about.
