Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Actually, we use similar fencing to keep the puppies at bay on occasion...

I remember my first day at the Labs... being introduced to various people... I will never forget the one guy sitting smoking his pipe with a chess board in front of him, telling me: “we are paid to think good thoughts here, never forget that and you will be alright...”

Well played hole! ⛳️

Good Morning!

Coming to appreciate the cloudy starts to the days... gives us a little buffer before the blazing heat sets in...

From the 17th tee I struggled again and just made it on to the elevated surface... A great second shot with my 2 iron got me on the green with a challenging putt that I got lucky on and watched it fall in for the Birdie 3...

I’ve never had the pleasure of working at a lab. I did get to interview some people at LLNL when I was working for the computer magazine. That was fun and a really nice place to visit.

It was an enjoyable environment over the years... I only stayed in Research for a few years before moving on to the applied side of the house... pretty much had the same academic style environment and staff collegiality but we had to get products/services into the marketplace, quickly...

Over the years all sorts of corporate misadventures changed things, and not for the better... last that I heard it is currently owned by Nokia...

Happy Thorsday... They keep changing up the rain forecast so I can’t tell if I’ll be able to take a road trip with weekend or not on Abby... Was supposed to rain today and tomorrow, but now they’ve pushed that out a couple of days.

It’s possible they’ve given up on prediction and just forecast rain for the next 10-days starting day after tomorrow... and when today is tomorrow, the whole thing resets...

Anyway... 17... It’s a long fairway, but straight again... Hard drive off the tee slices a bit, but took a decent bounce of the cart path... again. Might need to change up my driver at some point as this 1 wood seems to REALLY like those cart paths. Second shot had a lot of distance to go, but a good lie from where it bounced... dropped it right on the green just shy of the pin. Easy putt to finish and on to 18...

Cooler and thicker overcast this morning with light fog still settled over the ridge crest, but a clear view of the Golden Gate dropping down the West flank of the hills. Sun may peek through this afternoon but bay side temperatures won’t top 70F. Perfect weather for a blanket, coffee and a good book out on the patio.

I made the recommended “good tee shot” on 17 to get myself situated on said plateau from which point I played a well-hit 5-iron that put me in the heart of the green, a little beyond the flag. A modest put from there dropped to ice the Birdie.

Wait... what?

Cats are funny, but that’s a chair out of a passenger airliner; I don’t think you could recline it without it being bolted down to the floor, or it would tip over backwards. I guess it’s a novelty to have one at home, and it’d be cool if you actually integrated it with the power and audio in your house so that all of the in-chair features worked, but I don’t know anybody who likes flying THAT much.

Good morning. Happy Friday!

(singing) We iz familieeez!

We finally got a shower this morning. It could have been longer but it was enough that I didn’t water the grass. I’ll probably water some this evening because I don’t trust tomorrow’s guess.

What an interesting 18th hole!

I pretty much aimed for the cart track on my first swing to avoid that depression in front of the tee. I caught a good bounce that put me up on the fairway fairly close to the green. I went for loft to avoid rolling to far on the green. The ball landed fairly near the cup but with just enough back-spin to bring it in for the birdie.

Good Friday Morning!

It is a picture of the famous Mackerel Tabby Quartet in all their glory!

And yet another week races by...

At the 18th tee I got off a nice drive to end the round and cleared all of that rough impinging into the fairway... rolled a bit through that topsy turvy area and came to rest with a nice lie... a beauty of a second shot with my 5 wood (yes, I have room in the bag for it) dropped me onto the green with a fairly easy tap in for the Birdie 3....

Lol. Why anybody thought that would work is beyond me. Typical leftist answer I suppose. When tasked with thinking of something, anything to do about nuclear blast, they came up with symbolism over substance. The only thing it achieved was scaring the bejeepers out of a bunch of school kids. Not much has changed I suppose. After all we have 2 generations now that have been fed the Earth is on fire.
