No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Friday. Working from home. Supposed to rain at some point, supposedly. It looks awfully sunny out there. Cool though, only 56 F at 0830 CST...
Clipped the tee on the original drive. Ended up slicing onto the cart path again. Rolled to right behind a tree. Chipped around the tree and then dug out the wedge to pop the ball up to the green. Long green putt to end the hole.

That does seem rather cool... enjoy the weekend!
w00t!
Well, I got caught in the bunkers down by the green. My first shot should have put me well into position for a par, but my second shot got me stuck in one bunker, and my third in another. I managed to chip up onto the green and sink the putt for a double-bogey.
And in non-golf terms, me and the folks at NYT need to discuss what makes something a “word.” Sheesh!

A quiet day at home. So nice.
Sunny. Mild temperatures. Kinda windy.
The sort of day where you open up a few windows and get some outside air in to shove out all the tired out indoor air.
So, I believe that leaves me with 53 for the round. I’ll find time to play the 13th over the next couple days and catch you all on 14 Monday.

Funny that you should make note of the word... I actually thought that it was used before, and was surprised to not se it in the list...
Speaking of that, I noticed this statement at the rock-paper-shotgun site recently:
I envy folks that are able to open up the windows and get some fresh air in at this time of the year... for us, the humidity is just too darn high... we are able to open our windows for fresh air a handful of days in the Spring, and sometimes in the Fall...
Other than that the AC or dehumidifiers are slaving away to keep us somewhat dry inside...
53 is what the spreadsheet has down for you through 12...
Lazy Saturday. Not hot. Constant breeze of the kind that will slam doors in your house, so didn’t open the place very wide today.
Ran some laundry. Noted a small puddle under my washing machine [sigh]. Threw out a few unneeded odds and ends that have been squatting in my garage. Feels good to have some bare floor around the car, especially considering it’s supposed to be a 2-car garage.
Nice drive off the 13th tee found sand left of the green. Augered in hard against the wall of the bunker nearest the green, my exit strategy had to be an awkward pitch back the way I came. The physical contortions were less like golf and more like fishing something out of the garbage disposal; it would’ve been a cinch if I were a dwarf, or had a wedge 6ft long, or were left handed... Anyhow, I pitched away out of the pit and found a good lie on the tail of the fairway. Chipping on, I put a little extra into the shot to make it to the hole positioned at the rear of the green, but it stopped just a heartbreak short of dropping in.
A tap.
A Bogie.
A 57.
A 14th tee on Monday.

Great, now you are caught up... see you at 14...
(My weekend practice holes were disastrous...)
Welcome back! Hopefully the trip went well...
Everything was fine at Scout camp. We had a lot of rain Thursday night, but my tent was waterproof-ish, so my stuff and I were only damp, not soaked. Friday through Saturday morning was gorgeous.
In my experience “only damp” is a victory when it rains and you are tent camping... 😂
Yes, I was grateful. My fallback position was sleeping in my car.
Thanks for this. I think the times it has let me down I would have done well if I’d refreshed the page first. I always have it open so it’s not always refreshed. I’ve learned that lesson, though. Now I always refresh at the start of play.
We had one summer camp where we were drenched on the first day, then things were fairly dry. The only problem was, our campsite was at the bottom of a hill so the groundwater kept trying to invade. The scoutmasters spent the week digging little trenches to keep the water properly managed away from the tents.
Good morning. Happy Monday after a long weekend.
Dazn’t worriez. I can figurez dis out!
The landscapers are supposed to finish repairing the lawn today, then nothing left except the check writing and all the bush watering we’ll have to do until fall.
I too had a pretty disastrous Wordolf weekend. I made up for it a bit today.
I made it a point to hug the right of the fairway since I have such a tendency to hook my shots. I held my breath because I hit one of my more straight drives and it almost hit the foliage. Instead a nice bounce put me on a nice line to the green. I decided for some extra loft so the ball wouldn’t roll off the other side. Again, I aimed right to account for the slight slope to the left and the ball rolled within a foot of the cup. An easy putt gave me a birdie for hole 14.

Good Monday Morning!
Through no choice of his own, Blackie stayed close to the ground as he moved through the forest...

After two rough practice holes, I was hoping for some redemption as I approached the tee on 14...
Following the course guide, I aimed for the crooked pine and got off the best drive of the round... needed a great second shot to keep it going and was able to get a nice 2 iron swing that landed me on the green in a nice position for an make-able putt... gently finessed it in for a Birdie 3...
