No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
It seems to me that if you have to recount your highlights to your boss, said boss is missing something.
Finally a decent drive off the tee for Hole 11... good distance, nice lie... was able to use an iron on my second shot for the first time in the round... hit a nice arcing drive that got me on the green in 2... rolled a nice one back toward the cup that broke away at the last moment... tap in for the Par 4...

I can recall participating in some form of “360 degree feedback” in annual reviews many years ago in the Labs... as an individual contributor I remember using ls piped through a couple of greps being helpful in generating a list of documents authored for the year... once I was demoted into ‘management,’ the search became one looking for spreadsheets and PowerPoint files... and an attempt to recall how the hours slogged on months of conference calls was spent... 😂
It’s not so much the immediate Supervisors, it’s the Program Management needing to see the level of performance they’re getting for the taxpayers’ money, ‘cuz... National Lab... expectations... It’s phenomenal to be working in a place that has produced so many Nobel Prizes, but simultaneously strenuous as there’s always the question in the air of how you’re stacking up in supporting and/or aspiring to such greatness.
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
We haz rain. It’s a light rain. A truck from the landscapers has arrived. I don’t know how much they can do until it stops. The official foreguess is for that to happen between 10 and 11. And we are so close ...
I was very nervous about this tee shot, too concerned about all the mess to the left. I actually bounced the ball off the cart track on the right, but it was a lucky bounce that sent the ball back to the left and with a clear shot to the green. My second shot rolled left toward the cup, giving me an easy putt for the birdie.

Good Morning!
Another swamp day begins, at least this one has some bright sunshine to start out...
—
On Hole 12 I got off a half decent drive, slightly on top of it... but what a bounce and roll on this closely cropped fairway... the mowers must have just been through ahead of us... I ended up about even with the first of those 4 trees on the fairway side of the cart path... I got off a great shot with my 2 iron that landed me on the apron well to the right of the green... but again, the apron was so closely cropped it was like an extended green... took a fair amount of time studying the break, and luck was with me as it just barely broke in for the Birdie 3...

Nicely done.
So far our rain is of the slow, steady kind. The landscapers are putting in some mulch-bed bordering and grinding stumps. The front-yard gets taken care of tomorrow and lawn repair is slated for Monday.
Thanks, you as well!
Oh, I had thought that the work was being done in the front all along, I didn’t realize that the back was being worked on as well... Sounds like it is a total landscape makeover!
Not such a makeover in my mind. We had a privacy hedge planted along one side and filled in the tree stand in the back so that the junk the neighbors back there put in their back yards (out of their sight) wouldn’t be such an eyesore for us.
We also had some hardscape put in for 2 outside doors that were just opening onto lawn/dirt.
Ahh, more of a utilitarian makeover... functional...
Happy Thursday. Overcast and cool, but the rain is supposed to hold off until tomorrow again.
Long run on this one... Unleashed some pent up fury on the tee shot and came up apples with a nearly perfect drop and roll. Sticking with the 1 wood driver, I let my Left-handed hook play to my benefit and managed another Herculean shot dropping the ball right on the edge of the green. A long putt, but finished out the hole in 3.

Yes. And as my wife says, “Making the house ready for whoever buys it” because whenever she gets a place the way she likes it we seem to have a reason to move.
I haven’t explained to her yet that she never gets a place the way she likes it. She just gets stopped by the move.
Nice hacking!
Aren’t y’all getting to the age where you want to settle down and stop moving house?
(I consider it a royal pain in the ass and never want to have to do it again...)
I think I reached that point 2 moves ago, but those were both temporary moves.
This house is a little big to retire in, and the yard is also more than we need, so we’ll move eventually.
Gotta close out my performance reporting today. Tomorrow is the observed day off, so it’ll be a three-day weekend at my house.
We’ve a thin overcast this morning, so it’s a bit muggy. but a whiff of breeze is keeping it from being uncomfortable.

Yes, I have tomorrow off as well. However, I’ll still report my score on the 13th hole.
Well, hopefully it will be the last one... 🤞🏻
Good hole!
Good Friday Morning!
Where did the week go? When will it be less swampy?

On Hole 13 I was happy to get the ball off the tee and past the cart path... used my 7 iron and got under it for a nice loft up on to the green about 20 feet from the pin... it was a sharp break left but I read it well enough to roll it in for the Par 3...
