No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

That’s how my weekend went. That seems to be how it goes for me.
I didn’t mention that the day the word was “nobly” and I couldn’t think of that being a valid word I tried “noily” (because I was just trying everything) and that was on the word list. Go figure.
Today I saw the winning word on RockPaperShotgun as having already won again. After I guessed the word anyway and it won, I refreshed the page and it wasn’t there.
I didn’t mention that the day the word was “nobly”
That one pissed me off, I ended up with a 6 on that one.
I had to look up “noily.” Seems that they include some foreign words in their list... 🤷🏽♂️
I ran into a few recently... I should have made note of them...
A nippy 51F this morning at 7:30 but the F-o-meter in my car called it 99F parked out front of the grocery store 6 hours later. Didn’t need to resort to the A/C so that’s a win.

Good morning. Happy Monday!
We got some of the foreguessed rain on Saturday. Sunday was a nice, if warm, day so I got the lawn mowed. From the guess of the upcoming 2 weeks it looks like summer is fully here.
There’s lots of rain in the guess for this week so our landscaping may not start on Friday as scheduled. Oh, well. I’m sure it will get done.
I managed to play today’s hole without getting caught in either the huge bunker or the collection area they warned us about. A solid drive off the tee got me to the green just the other side of the bunker. I landed my second shot just a few feet from the hole. A short putt gave me par for today’s hole.

Good Monday Morning!
We got rained on overnight Friday into Saturday, when all was said and done, we picked up 3.55” on the gauge... brings us to just over 22” for the year... pretty much caught up to where we should be... stocks look good, pasture grasses are growing well...

On the Par 3 4th hole I had another poor tee shot and ended up in the large collection area... drove out with my 5 iron and ended up rolling onto the lower section for green... slam-putted it up to near the hole and was able to sink a fairly long putt for the Bogey 4...

Happy wet weather Monday...
Didn’t put enough arse into the backswing and barely cleared the long sand trap. Went short with a 5 iron to try to get it on the green without over shooting... and did anyway. Had to chip back up to the green and finished out the hole with a short putt.

...but all the misery ended with a chip shot worthy of Arnold Palmer that — itself a thing of singular beauty — dropped onto the green and ran straight to the cup as though on rails.
Off to THE 5th (not A 5th) with 19 strokes to my (dis)credit.

It’s a little cooler in the mornings but still getting hot in the afternoons.
The landscape guy came by yesterday. He thinks most of the rain this week will be overnight so we might still get started on Friday. We shall see.
My tee shot just barely got me up on the dog-leg fairway. I was going to try to hg the tree line at the right of the curve to make up some distance but being nervous about that bunker I wound up shorter than I needed. My third shot got me close to the green where a surprise shot onto the green had enough spin on it to roll back and into the hole.
So my 4 for today leaves me still at par - 20 for the course.

Wow, when we don’t have a morning cloud cover, the sun is incredibly bright (and blinding!) at 7:00AM... maybe it won’t rain today...

My hope for a nice clean shot off the tee on 5 didn’t materialize... another duff... Playing the 2 wood from about 50 yards from the tee, I got off a nice one and ended up right inside the dog leg with the roll... A nice shot with my 9 iron got me up on the green in 3... all was not lost... Easy putt in for Par...
