No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
Which iz betterz, the tacoz or the box?
No change in the weather or the guess today. Cool mornings and warm afternoons - nice. Of course, the rain is guessed for the weekend, which will make the yard work tough.
We picked a dentist to try yesterday. Now Mrs. ArGee is second guessing herself. It’s hard for her to just wait and see if a problem will occur. She likes to assume they will and worry about them.
Yes, we’ve had some bad dentists in our time. Even worse, she’s watched YooToob videos about bad dentists.
In today’s hole I over-compensated for yesterday’s drive that went too far to the left. I wound up close to those trees they warned us about on the right. I went too far to the right after that and wound up in that sand trap. I was able to pitch out OK and get onto the green, where my putt left me at par for the second day. I’m now at 8 for the round.

Looks like we all had a rough time off the tee to start the round, but end up at Par, no worse for wear...

Good Morning!
The only problem with these “pop up” type storms is that I often do a lot of putting away and covering up for no reason... better than the alternative I suppose...

A tough drive for me from the 2nd tee... got way under it and put up a moon shot... another fairway wood got me within shouting distance of the green and I made a long pitch to get on in 3... luck was with me as I rolled a long uphill putt, that I miss 9 times out of 10, in for Par.

Happy Thursday...
Initial drive was solid, but drifted a bit to the right on me. From the edge of the fairway, a kind of squirrely 9 iron dropped me just short of the cart path. Switched to a 5 iron to drop on to the green with about an 8-10’ putt, slightly uphill with the cup to the left.

A little better launch off this second tee than off the first with a good poke out to the mid-fairway. On this straight-away hole I drew a long iron for my second shot, looking to set up a chip on and a one-put finish. I got it a bit to the left, but it was going to fall short so I wasn’t concerned. At least, not until it dropped right onto the cart path, took a single, long bounce and planted itself in the bunker. Pitching out I bounced it over most of the green and it dribbled into the rough beyond. My miracle put was not forthcoming; it took an additional two strokes to hole in for a Bogie.

Good morning. Happy Friday!
Ah, the good old days. They may have pestered us, but we didn’t have to worry about them wrecking the car, getting pregnant (or getting someone else pregnant), or going bankrupt.
Like the song says, I miss this.
I thought I was doing excellently to have my second drive put me near the end of the second fairway and close to the green. But I wiffed with another hook to the left and wound up almost in the trees behind the bunker on shot 3. I cleared the bunker but wound up at the end of the green. Even though it was relatively flat, it still took me 2 putts to sink the ball for par. With 5 for this hole I stand at 13 for the round.

Good Friday Morning!
Another week rushes by... at least I feel that I am accomplishing things... slowly, but surely...
—
Off the tee on the 3rd hole I ended up in the fairway bunker to the right... great start! Got way under it with my 8 iron and just barely got out... Trying a 3 wood I hit my first decent shot of the hole, got close enough for a decent pitch onto the green... on in 4... I ended up two-putting for the Bogey...

The Bogey 6 puts me at 14 for the round...
In a non-golf discussion, I couldn’t believe my first two guesses gave me so much good information and I couldn’t come up with the word in fewer than 5. When I actually typed it in I still was wondering if it would be accepted as a word. When it was I realized how I had been thinking about the pronunciation wrong.
I actually guessed 2 words (3 and 4) that I wasn’t sure were words.
I still can’t believe my mind wouldn’t shift when I needed it to and let me guess the word sooner.
Yes, I call it the “pronunciation loop” and I often get stuck in it on the later rows... One of my guesses was a word that I didn’t think was a valid word...
It was actually a Wordle that matched the Par of the hole well... speaking of, I need to redo the spreadsheet to update the Wordle game number row to remove the weekend games... I’ll spit it out over the weekend...
Happy Friday...
Being Left-handed... my slice is kind of stupid... Hot off the tee I just had enough distance to not end up in either the bunker or the water hazard. Switched to a 3 wood to try to make up some distance and took a solid bounce off that damnable cart path again. This put me in good range with a 5 iron to drop within easy putting distance of the cup...

Afternoon, y’all. I’m checking things off a list: all fairly small but urgent things, since we’re leaving Sunday morning on our vacation.
Yellow-and-white cat came by and caught a bird about half an hour ago.
