Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

The temptation to just point at the open road and see where you wind up must be awesome.

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

I’ve ALWAYS loved to just — drive. I’d do 900 miles in a day, if it’s just wide-open prairie. Far less if there are things to see. Garden Of The Gods over out of Colorado Springs is one of those places. Hoover Dam. The Grand Canyon. I need a week to tromp around in Yellowstone. People don’t take a week, but I’d advise a week to really SEE Yosemite, and poke your nose out the east gate up on top of Tioga Pass up above the tree line.

I love a scenic drive, myself, and it’s not that expensive in my hybrid Honda. (Plus gas is $3.75 here.)

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

Mrs. ArGee and I were talking the other day about things we’d like to see. Taking the Princess is a little difficult and leaving her at a kennel with all her medical issues is not something we’ve contemplated yet. We need to make a friend who could take her for a couple of weeks without a problem.

We have another great weather day on tap. The guess is for increasing highs until the weekend, then rain.

I haven’t conquered today’s Wordle yet. I’ll post it when I get it.

Yup, rain too many days in a row makes mowing difficult... hopefully it will dry out enough for him soon...

Sounds like an amazing drive! We have to head into west Texas to even begin to approach a scenic drive...

It’s a beautiful Tuesday. 92 miles round trip to 2 different client sites.

Just an “ok” drive off the pin with a decent lie. Switched to a 7 iron that left me a bit of long green, but I managed to drop the putt.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

It’s another cool, sunny morning here. Just the right weather for an early tee time.

We ordered a retractable awning for the back deck. It arrived in two boxes, although the shipping information said nothing about that. When the first box arrived I was thinking, “Hmm. I certainly hope there’s more.” Then when the second box arrived it was all I could do to wrangle it into the garage.

Time to let our friendly handyman know it’s here.

I fully intended to follow the recommendation with a shot slightly left of center. This one grew blue hair and started protesting so I found myself solidly in the trees on the left. I had to shoot right to make sure I missed that big sand trap and found myself in the rough to the right of the trap. I was fortunate enough to get it onto the green with shot 3 and a lucky putt gave me par for hole 1.

Good Midweek Morning!

We are in a phase where t-storms can materialize most evenings in a very hit or miss fashion... we got hit with a welcome 0.46” last evening...

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy doing the shopping on Tuesdays? Hardly anyone around, most aisles have 0-2 other shoppers in them... no wait to check out... Nice!

Quite a bit of dew on the course here this morning... I lifted up on my swing and topped it... bounce and roll about 50 yards from the tall pine... second shot with a fairway wood was a nice one and got me within 75 yards of the green... a nice chip up with a favorable roll left me with a near tap in for Par...

Happy Wednesday...

Whiffed the shot off the T... but managed a solid hit from the rough with a 9 iron. Switched to a 5 to land it close to the pin. Easy putt for 4.

Not strong distance off the tee, but at least I got it to the left so I had eyes on the pin. My second stroke from the mid-fairway bounced and rolled up just onto the lip of the green. That set up a long-ish attempt for a Birdie that trailed away to one side and left me about a two-foot tap-in to save par.
