No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good Morning!
I found a fire ant mound yesterday that I wasn’t aware of... sigh... the method of washing them off right away, then rubbing some diluted bleach spray onto them, then rinsing off again, and rubbing some alcohol onto them (vigorously) seems to minimize the amount of formic acid left behind...

Reminded me of our old Wordle Golf days...

D.C. suggested we try Hilton Head, either National or Palmetto Dunes, for another round of Wordle Golf. Thoughts?
Considering there’s usually one way to find a new fire ant mound, I’m glad your remedy worked OK. Hopefully there wasn’t too much pain.
I’m game for any of those... just let me know what everyone wants to play and I will prepare the score card (spreadsheet)...
The pain/burning is usually fleeting... I’m hoping that I got to it in time to avoid the longer term itching and blistering... 🤞🏻
I’ve been using this method on onsies, twosies that have come along... this is the first test on bunches of them at once... 🤞🏻
National has course descriptions, but not a 3D sim. This is what I found, anyway.
There are 3 courses at Palmetto Dunes. Each has a hole layout with a non-interactive video. The pars are 72, 72, and 70 for the three courses. Information about the 3 is here:
Absent any other reason to select a favorite, we could just add all 4 to our list and play them through.
Uhhhhh...
...does the kit come with extra parts, ‘cuz I dunno where these widgets are supposed ta go, unless they’re spares...
Golf we must, for a sign has appeared.

Okay, let’s start with Hilton Head National... IIRC we like to start the round on a Wednesday so that it ends on a Friday... I will get us ready for an early tee on Wednesday June 3rd...
Very true, very true!
Usually when doing any assemblies I’m forced to ask a much younger than i person for assistance. Usually the assembly that occurs causes fury from observers and we (i and person) proceed to delegate our prior assigned task of assembly to the observer(s). We call it strategic exercise. Failure by design.
Am always forced (by design) to delegate any assembly of any doggy to more qualified kittahs. My doggy meows, rubs against my leg which is preferable to more aggressive behavior and purrs. Even the kittah sometimes can’t read the doggy assembly instructions properly but humping is always left out of the assembly process and that is good …….
I’m hearing Marisa Tomei, “Yeah. You blend.”
Good morning.
I haven’t seen any cats yet today. Stump-Tail Cat was here for about an hour one morning this week, trying to catch a rabbit in our shrubbery.
Sounds like a plan.
There’s nothing like a kibitzer when you’re trying to do a really important job.
Good morning. Happy Friday!
It’s been a week. But I didn’t risk igniting any kittehs so there’s that.
The trail cam finally spotted something poking out of that hole. It’s markings say chipmunk but it’s hard to tell from the shape exactly what I’m seeing. Anyway, we need to try to encourage said critter to find another hold before the landscaping begins.
Another 3 runs today gives me 13 for the Over.

Took me awhile to get that burn pile re-lit yesterday but finally got it going, see that it is still smoldering out there now...
