Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

😂

After watching it, I have a vague recollection of the scene... especially the discussion of the swallows...

Good morning. Happy Monday!

WHO left da watterz in mai bed???

It’s officially hot. I was able to walk The Princess without a jacket this morning. The guess is for a high of 92. We may get some relief on Wednesday (with accompanying rain).

We have primaries tomorrow. I don’t think my vote will matter much in this district as we’re a very red part of this purple state. But I’ll go cast it anyway.

What was up with yesterday’s Wordle word? That’s a word I don’t normally think of in singular. Like criticisms from the missus, it’s always plural. Anyway, I got 2 runs today to start the Over.

Good Monday Morning!

That right there is a full set of teeth!

Hoping that everyone had a nice weekend of sorts... In addition to the Carnitas on Saturday night, we had some delicious ribs last night...

Maybe my Wordle luck is turning?

Yes, it was a strange one, took me forever to get it on 5... no other possibilities at that point I think...

Nice job on the Wordle.

Young ArGee’s church has a family that does an overnight study event on Shavuout, which is Thursday night. Someone mentioned that Mrs. ArGee and I could Zoom as part of it.

I said I’d attend if they were serious, so now she’s checking it out.

I hope I can cash the check my mouth wrote. 😳

Thanks.

We frequently watch the Sunday service from my sister’s church in Ohio...

Monday morning.

Got Dad’s pontoon put in the lake up at my Sister’s place. Still need to go back and fix the primary cable on the boat lift now though... 25’ pontoon and when we tried to lift it... the cable snapped just a couple feet down from the winch.

My Middle Sister’s birthday was yesterday, so we celebrated that as well.

Over all, not a bad weekend.

I hate it when that happens!

At lest you got it on the water. Hopefully you enjoyed the motoring about and some great weather.

I have an AI movie running through my head.

It involves cars racing toward each other and each trying to cut the engine off the other.

We did. Sister had some friends over and we did an Asian hibachi inspired dinner and then finished it off with drinks and a Sunset cruise around the lake. It’s a fairly big lake, so we didn’t do a full loop... just enough to watch the sun go down.

Way cool.

When I was younger going out on the water meant water skiing (I had to learn to add the word water when I moved out of the south).

After I’d been away from home, and from the back of a boat, for about 5 years I tried to do some water skiing with the family. I didn’t take it easy enough. By the third day my left arm was locked in an L that I couldn’t release for days.

I had no idea how strong I was as a kid.
