Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Also, I don’t know Russian. In my parish in San Antonio, we used to keep a bottle of bourbon stashed behind the organ “for our colds.”

It is because there are other types of attorneys, e.g., Attorney-in-Fact: A private agent authorized to handle business affairs for another, not necessarily a lawyer.

They haven’t conducted their Divine Eucharist in Russian (in the US) for quite a while.

The entire service is pretty much sung. The choir takes the part of the congregation and the Priest and Choir do the whole thing.

It’s kind of interesting and kind of boring, at the same time.

It seems like you could knit at the same time.

Our funeral went extremely well. The family was very pleased.

Mom fell on Sunday and broke her arm at the shoulder. ER trip, follow-up at an orthopedic center. Now home resting, sort of, with the help of morphine. Darn near whole upper arm is purple. Resisting staying hydrated when awake.

In other news. I got my last ADT shot Monday. The official end of my cancer treatment!

Sorry to hear about your mom. It’s no fun when they become impatient patients. Mrs. ArGee’s mother fell and broke her hip and it was all we could do to get her to the hospital for x-rays.

Good news about the end of your cancer treatment. 🎉

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

How much for that kitteh in a basket?

We have sunshine this morning after the rain yesterday. It’s foreguessed to be cool for the forguessable future.

The arborist said to give the trees another couple of months. He said several kinds were hit when it got so warm and then froze. They might bounce back. We saw some green while looking, which gives us hope. We have a second opinion today.

The basement leaked a little yesterday in one of the spots the basement guy sealed, so I have to call him to come back and fix it again. The American Dream continues.

Another 3 runs today gives me 11 for the Over.
