No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. We’re having some unforecast rain, which is good. Maybe they’ll cancel the statewide Burn Ban in time for me to have a tiny May Day fire in the Solo stove.
Yup, getting sufficient rain is key to dropping those burn bans... state-wide is interesting though.... didn’t realize that they had those anywhere... ours are by county....

We have gray skies this morning. But I mowed yesterday, so it’s OK.
We now have a Nest Doorbell and 2 Nest outside cameras. I get pinged a lot when we wander around. The Nancy Guthrie case has made Mrs. ArGee nervous so ... cameras.
I managed 2 runs on Wordle today due to the sea of green. That gives me 4 runs for the Over.

Considering your state is so huge, the rules would be different.
I remember someone from Nebraska telling me about his plan to drive from Boston to the Berkshires. He anticipated a day based on the size of Nebraska. It took only a couple of hours.

It’s still a little gloomy here. Rain is guessed for later today. That doesn’t appear to be impacting the weather over the next few days, though.
We see several trees in the tree stand in our back yard that have no buds or leaves yet. Today and tomorrow we’ll be getting an assessment of whether any need to come down and how much it will cost. The American Dream indeed!

Cloudy and cool here. I’m singing at a funeral this afternoon in spite of either a cold or allergies. Fortunately, I don’t have any big solos: it’s a group effort.
Bright, sunny, but cool... Watching rabbits chase each other around my yard while watching the SpaceX Falcon Heavy show the New Glenn folks how it is supposed to be done.
