No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
w00t!
And nice job on the Wordle.
I didn’t even notice... *sigh*
Sorry about that.
What a pile of gorgeous kitties!
Good morning. I hope you had a good night. How does Patrick feel about being 23? Any adages from the wise part of his life?
I didn’t sleep well when I came back from washing clothes so I suppose I’ll sleep good tonight. I hope.
I just took my pills and am having Second breakfast and plan on making brownies tomorrow morning. It’s the least I can do!
I’ll go hang clothes in a few minutes. I’m just not ready for it, yet.
Yeah, the pain is what usually makes an amazing day a slightly shaded day, but it’s my own fault for being so scatter-brained.
The bad thing is that if I go to long without a pain killer, my spine feels sore for the next day or two. This is going to be a rough week, because I’m going to be out of my elephant for two days. FS will come Christmas Eve to get me, and won’t bring me home until Christmas Day, so my schedule will be all messed up. I just hope there isn’t too much of a relapse behind it all.
The worst thing about it is that there is no decent place to sit at Roy’s. He’s got hard chairs in the kitchen area, and I need a crane to lift me out of the sofa. I’ll be sleeping on the floor in the “study” unless I want to treat myself to the sofa. But It will be fun. I hope!
No, that’s what it’s there for.
I saw a comedian discussing words and phrases that bugged him. This was one. "Oh, so you really wanted to do nothing?? Then when you decided you had to do something you figured out what the least was so you could do that??" He cracked me up.
He also said, "Etymology is the study of words. Entomology is the study of bugs. But what's the study of words that bug you?"
Exactly what I want to know!
That half-and-half cat is SO interesting!
Our cats are in for a big surprise this morning. After we rescued them 2011, they haven’t seen a dog. My brother’s wife is in serious trouble and in a nearby (to us) hospital; he’s quite a long distance away.
This morning he’s dropping off his dog so Puppy won’t be left alone all day(s) while he visits my SIL. It’ll be interesting to see how they react, even though she’ll be in a room with the door closed.
Best wishes to all the animals and people.
WOW! What a stuning floof!
Good morning.
I’m slated to go over to the “Bloomington Flophouse” about 1330, and they’ll be exchanging gifts, about 1600, then I’ll come home in the morning. I’ve got SOO much to do before I go over that I’ve decided only the bare necessities warrant actual finishing, because if I try to fit them all in, I’ll be a nervous wreck.
I get stressed when my schedule is changed in any way, thanks to CFIDS, that things like Christmas are just not worth going places and do things. It’s much easier to just stay home and honor the Savior from the solitude of my little place.
Could you ask Roy for a cushion for one of the hard chairs? If he’s a decent person, he would be happy to make a little effort to make a guest more comfortable.
I’ve asked DP to make some prints of the photos of Tom and Elen in the rainforest, and I’ll have a set framed for each of them. Will have to be late Christmas presents, but that’s never bothered us: we believe in the clearance sales!
At first, I thought one or the other picture was doctored, but then I realized the two cats on the right have yellow eyes, and the one on the left has blue eyes.
I hope everything goes as well as possible with your activities today and tomorrow. Big smile for PW and think hard, “Sucks to be you, bless your heart!”
Good morning. Happy Twosday! Merry Christmas Eve!
We had some snow last night and I forgot to set an alarm to get to M-I-L’s driveway early so I’m a little behind today. I wish I had a little behind, but that’s a different topic.
Anyway, I’ll be working a fairly full day and then it’s Christmas Eve stuff so I’ll be in sporadically today.
Not a great start on the Wordle front, but at least I go the word.

He’s got a cushion for his chair but he uses it when he’s at the laptop. But better yet, I’ll see if I have something here that’s suitable to take with me.
Those photos will be nice, I think! Does DP use a 35mm camera? It’s been a long time since I’ve even seen one of those! I think it was the last time I was at your place.
I believe in clearance sales as well! And lots of peeps around me are getting late Christmas presents. Because, unlike most people with a reason, I’m just lazy.
And yes, I’m going to give PW a big smile and maybe even a hug and thank her for all she’s doing.
I’m going to take a shower in a bit and then, if I feel up to it, I’ll start on the brownies. I doubt that any will make it back this way, but as long as I can remind FS that PW isn’t the only good cook in town, it will be enough Christmas for me.
Of course, I won’t be able to stand up for the rest of the day, but that’s fine! I AM the Matriarch, after all! LOL!
I don’t have any idea what kind of cameras he’s using, except “digital.” I think the rainforest pics were taken on Elen’s phone, and when I asked about getting prints, DP said mumble mumble signal resolution mumble, and I said, “Please try, anyway: it can’t hurt,” and they turned out fine.
A folded-up blanket could do as a cushion, and then you would also have an extra blanket.
I think I have a small cushion that I bought to put in Chip’s tent, if I can ever get him out of it long enough. The chairs to the dining table are such that when you sit to eat, your chin is almost in your plate, so even a slight boost in height will work as well.
Most cameras are digital, since about 1990, but the 35mm is standard for professional photographers. What makes the difference in the finished photo is the lens used.
Blankets, they have LOTS of!
Good Morning & Merry Christmas Eve!
So, I’ve once again reached the point where I have realized that I won’t be able to get everything done that I wanted to before Christmas... time to pare the list down and categorize into: 1. what must be done by the end of today, 2. what will be just as ‘okay’ if finished by Thursday, and 3. what will be deferred until afterwards...
Surprisingly I got very lucky on the Wordle front and now have two in a row... haven’t had that in quite some time...
