Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Happy late birthday, Patrick!

In other news, the program was astoundingly beautiful and successful and FS was mesmerized by it. He said he loves a good Christmas program. It was all musical numbers, from when Mary announces she pregnant to the birth of Baby Jesus. I finally broke down at, “Mary, Did You Know?” That was about midway through the program, which ran overtime, and made the second ward late for theirs. It probably had a snowball effect for the rest of the day.

We came home and I changed clothes and we talked a little, which was productive, and then drove into Bloomington for a pot roast dinner. Roy hadn’t cooked for a long time and he was excited to have so many people at his table.

It was a tasty meal, too!

I had forgotten to take any morphine when I got home, so I was in pain. FS was having trouble with his hips because of sitting for almost two hours, so after dinner was over he brought me home.

Roy gave me the biggest, warmest hug! You’d think the guy was glad to see me!

Anyway, it was a good day, and I have to get up from here and go wash clothes. Ugh, she sez.

It will be cooler on Christmas, and overcast, but no snow. Maybe next month!

It sounds like it was an excellent day, except for the pain.

“We’re not having another cat.”

Ditto for us. We’re down to three, having started at eight rescues. We have vowed to have no more due to our age.

On a tour in Aruba last week, we were tempted to grab a stray that was amazingly friendly and beautiful. I’m positive Princess would not have allowed it on the ship. 😉

International transit of animals is usually difficult. Did you enjoy the cruise?

My NextDoor feed is full of lost cats, and it reminds me of all the nights wondering where Jake was, while the male family members just shrugged and said, “He’ll be back,” because males.

“International transit of animals is usually difficult.”

It is. Even inTRAnational transit of animals is a pain. To bring a pet from the mainland to HI, it used to be that the pet has to remain in quarantine on Oahu for 120 days. (Don’t know if that’s still the case.) To transport via air within the mainland, there’s a ton of paperwork, shots, etc.

“Did you enjoy the cruise?”

I was fine. Perfect weather. Calm seas. 14 days is too long, though, and we prefer only 10. That is IF we ever cruise again. We hadn’t since early 2020. The “men” of the entertainment staff are disgusting — flaming homosexuals. During one game, they were hugging on stage and several walked out. The guy emceeing the event laughed and lisped, “OK. We ‘promith’ we won’t hug any more”, ridiculing those who were leaving.” They flitted and pranced around the ship all the time.

Anyhow — cruise was fine, but not great.

Interesting, thanks. My mother liked river cruises best. She and some of the other Old Girls did five or six in Europe, as well as the Nile.

We’d like to try a river cruise, but they’re SO much more expensive than ocean cruises.

After this last one, it’s possible that our cruising days are over once and for all. We’ll re-think it in a few weeks or months.

It’s sort of like a cat: you can change your mind about it.

Good Monday Morning!

Hoping that everyone had an enjoyable weekend and got done what needed to be done... I finally got a good start on the ‘neighborhood’ Christmas gifts that I am making this year... I now have a fairly decent chance of getting them finished for us to give out sometime tomorrow...

After a dismal Wordle weekend of a 5 and a 4, I have a decent start to the Wordle Christmas week...

Good morning. Happy Monday!

It’s beginning to look a lot like ... February? Today was supposed to be a little warmer than yesterday, but that’s only true if -6 is somehow warmer than -1. Brrrr. Fortunately The Princess didn’t want to be out in it any longer than necessary so she got her “business” taken care of quickly.

M-I-L did OK this weekend. There’s one overnight caregiver who seems to be up more than others. I think she may try too hard to make M-I-L be happy and it discombobulates her. Once she’s discombobulated she doesn’t really recombobulate (is that a word?).

We’ll see how M-I-L does with her first Christmas without her husband in over 70 years.

Wordle’s been fairly “par” lately. Today is no different.
