Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Friday!

Who knew getting a survey of property lines is so expensive? Hopefully the first guy I called is just on the high side. I’m waiting for a second bid.

Today’s Wordle word might make me give up the game. I mean, seriously?

Good Friday Morning!

Week sort of flew by again, even though we are still waiting for our promised rains.... sigh...

After row 4 I could only think of 3 possible words, and 2 had already been used... it was a toughie for sure...

Friday. Warm outside, but raining. Was able to finally get over for a haircut and am feeling freshly shorn.

Ran my leaf blower cleaning up the flower beds. Still need to trim some stuff back and rake things up a bit, but it felt good to be outside and able to get stuff done.

Wanted to work on getting things painted... but I need 50+ to ensure the paint dries correctly. Plus, when it’s that warm... I can fire up the new pressure washer...

Anyway...

Ok.... Sorry... But I am emotionally crashing out right now...

The last week or so, Nathan Fillion has been posting videos on his Instagram account on the “OnceWeWereSpacemen” podcast that he and Allan Tudyk do as a side project.

https://www.instagram.com/oncewewerespacemen/

These videos are Nathan going to the homes of the Firefly/Serenity crew and hinting strongly at some kind of new project.

Already said it's not just a reunion event, convention appearance, or just a group podcast.

As someone who was severally invested in the original series, to the point that I was actually part of the lobbying effort in Texas to not only get the Serenity movie made... but to literally harass local theaters into doing special showings for other Browncoats...

Now this... March 15 is the announcement of whatever it is.

I was not emotionally prepared for anything like this and am actually having difficulty keeping my Zen-adjacent demeanor. I keep thinking, “Shiny!” and wanting to make weird SQUEEEEE noises.

Wow, we watched Firefly and thoroughly enjoyed it... did not see the Serenity movie though to the best of my recollection...

Let us know what is announced on March 15th...

I guess we’ll see. Considering how many of them are in active commitments with other shows, I doubt it’ll be another TV series or movie.

My bet is on some kind of audio book collaboration or animated project. I know both Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres (ne Fishburne) have done animated and/or audio book work before.
