Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Does he come up your steps?

Mountain bike finished... turned over to an expert Hollander to make the derailleur adjustments, etc. Hopefully he will avoid the soft spots on the roads if he is moving with any speed...

First time I've seen a rabbit up here. Woodchuck, crows, and owl once... Even got invaded by 8-9 raccoon's when we used to put out a lot of bird seed.

Scared the stuffing out of the woodchuck... He managed to squeeze his chunky backside through the balusters and jumped the 7’ to the ground. Ran off into the woods. I've seen him on my night vision a time or two since then.

Haven't had a deer up here yet... I wonder if I should put out a salt lick.

Good Morning!

He certainly is crafty!

Getting a bit concerned that the foreguessing all last week and through the weekend was a cruel hoax... they had been showing us getting decent rain from the past Tuesday night into Wednesday, and from Wednesday onward (well into next week)...

Then they starting backing off each day... on this past Tuesday it showed no rain until Friday... that held through yesterday... this morning it now shows no rain for Friday, but starting on Saturday... and the amounts foreguessed have all shrunk quite a bit.... Grrr... 😡

Oddly lucky on row two, but still took me four...

I remember seeing a news item once about a bear getting on someone’s deck and taking a dip in their spa.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

Reminds me of a skit from my grandfather’s vaudeville show. One of the characters is supposed to be hiding so he squats down and puts his hands in front of his eyes.

We were supposed to have rain all day yesterday and today. We’ve gotten some, but not as much as they were guessing.

Our lawn hasn’t had much attention for the past 20 or so years and it needs some. I’m trying to decide whether to have a service just come in and jump-start the greaning or help out all year. I’m leaning toward the long-term relationship since a strong lawn really isn’t my gift.

2nd guess on Wordle gave me a good hint at what to shoot for in the 3rd.

Reminds me that our kids used to cover their eyes and say “you can’t see me!” when they were little... my parents told me that I used to do the same thing... lol

Depending on your state the DNR may try to get you for baiting.

Rumor sayith, (not sure if true but it does sound like them) that at one of the defunct orchards around here that they tried to claim that not cleaning up the apples was baiting.

We let the pigs into the orchard and oaks in the fall to fatten them up so we have proof that we make an attempt to clear the area. Delicious pit cooked proof.

Eh... I don’t like the taste of venison, so this would be more of a photo op type thing. “Hey look, I got a deer to climb the stairs up to my deck to get this photo...”

No wild hog up here. No idea why, as they are in Wisconsin and Iowa... I guess there are some things even pigs don’t want to deal with and Minnesota is one of those things.
