Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Considering Austin already had a lone wolf attack it makes sense you’d have beefed up security. (It was Austin, right?)

Got more pieces parts for the new bike project. I did 2 separate orders of nuts/bolts/brackets, a bolt/nut gauge, and two hardware storage boxes to help organize everything.

Spent a couple hours binge watching Battlestar Gallactica (reboot, not original) and sorting hardware.

Still have a front fender coming in... I think I almost have enough to start hanging gear on the frame once I get everything cleaned, painted, and greased.

Eh... not really. Low hanging fruit. Big ticket items, wiring harness, motor, transmission, etc... are going to be the things that I need to build up for.

Body panels, wheels, and miscellaneous hardware are relatively cheap.

The treadmill and spin cycle are in place. Now to go through the user manuals.

Understandable... Most people would probably start with a project where things like a motor would be included and you’d rebuild/modify from there.

Nope. I’m a complete idiot and I bought a frame. JUST the frame. It had a couple of brackets still on it, but nothing else. Then you start looking for all the different bits to make it something other than an oddly shaped hunk of metal...

“Here’s a puzzle box. Here’s a picture. Now go find all your own pieces...”

One thing is for certain, I’ll learn a lot. Even if it’s just “there are easier ways to do this.”

Absolutely, you will definitely learn a lot...

Also, I have been working on rebuilding a mountain bike for one of the Dutch cousins to ride around on... and it has no motor or transmission (other than the sprockets, derailleurs, and chain)... so they were not top of mind for sure!

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

We got a gentle, soaking rain yesterday that’s continuing today. Nothing has frozen on the ground so it’s just spring weather. They’re guessing rain through Sunday followed by temps in the upper 70s! I hope that’s not the end of spring.

I seemed to have run out of good options very early in Wordle. A lot of staring at available letters for this win.
