Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Could have been... I'm not sure... I do recall an alt rock band called 10,000 Maniacs...

They did a great version of Bryan Ferry's More Than This...

24 today... 30’s through the weekend, so hopefully I can get outside and get some stuff done. Woodpeckers are at the front of my house again and I’d like to take the rest of my outside Christmas lights down. The extension cords will be frozen to the ground, but I can get the stuff off the trees and the fence.

Plus, I need to chase down an electrical short in the Cadillac. Picked up a full set of interior LED light bulbs, which... either the bulb or the wiring harness for the interior lights can short out causing fuse issues... Should be less than fun...

Yep... That is the general idea... -e used to take the long way around, it’s currently going where it isn’t supposed to, now I need to stop that...

Forums online say it’s either a vanity mirror light, the tailgate/cargo area light, or the driver’s side door opera lights... or the wiring harness in-between...

Oh... is THAT all... *sigh*

Looks like I got all the 6s.

Way back when we had a new car with only a 12 month warranty. The ignition went out, and something was replaced under warranty.

Then the ignition went out and another something was replaced under warranty.

In the 11th month, the ignition went out again. I spoke with the service manager, telling them that the 2 things that blew out the two previous times were symptoms of something else, and they needed to find the something else. Otherwise if the ignition goes out after the 12th month I’m going to make a claim against the warranty.

They gave a serious look and found a group of wires that was run outside the wiring harness rather than inside. The wires had rubbed against the metal enough to wear the insulation away and every so often the wires would cross, blowing out an ignition part. They fixed that and we never had another ignition problem with the car. It was actually a good car for as long as we owned it once we got past that issue.

That’s almost balmy for you up there!

Short circuits can be infuriating... good luck with it!

You sure did... Gon6rats!

This is a 2004 SRX. First year, so it has all the first year model problems. Mostly wiring harness issues and leaking CV boots on the AWD models. It literally has 3 fuse blocks and 2 ECU’s... The internal wiring is considered a “network” now. The 2 read fuse blocks are under the front edge of the rear seats under the carpeting, that is hard plastic backed carpet, that you need 3 hands to access the fuse blocks because of...

It’s a 10A fuse that is the issue on the passenger side fuse block for the interior lights. It’ll work for a day or two, then “something” happens and it pops the fuse. I haven’t been able to really track it down as I’ve just let the interior lights be dark for the 2 years I’ve had the car.

Under 150k miles, so making at least some effort to keep it running.

Heated leather seats. In MN Winters. I may never NOT buy a car that doesn’t have heated seats for as long as I live up here.

I have some clues... Will most likely give an update later as I don’t really have much else to talk about these days.

We had annual fire safety classes in the military. Air Wing... so lots of flammable stuff including some of the metals used in airframes, engines, and support equipment.

Jet fuel requires a certain amount of effort to get it to combust... We used to just toss our cigarette butts in the drip trays and let the oil/hyd fluid/fuel put it out. A certain amount of tobacco chew “juice” ended up in those trays as well making emptying them something the newbies (boot) did or if you were on someone’s sh*t list.

“I also spent way too much of my young kids’ time viewing their world through a tiny B&W viewfinder. I finally put all that stuff away and decided to focus on what I can remember.”

Yeah. Been there. Did plenty of that.
I’ve got boxes of prints and a NAS full of JPEGs to prove it.

I’ve come to the point where I recognize that they all are there not so much for me, as for those who come after; that they can have things to hold up and say, “Oh, wow! I remember that,” or to see the faces they never knew and gain a better anchorage in this sphere.

My family name is over 600 years old. I want my sons and daughters to know the might of this tree, the breadth of its shade, the richness of its sap, and the depth of its roots.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

You iz not making dis bed!!!

There’s a cooling trend guessed but by next Wednesday (or so) we get warmer weather and snow.

Yesterday morning in one of my normal rounds with The Princess we saw a skunk slinking away. The Princess was very interested but I talked her out of exploring further. I’ll be avoiding that area for a while.

Wordle was nothing to write home about today.

Good Morning!

Looks like our “winter” has gone into remission for the time being... we’ll see what the last half of February holds...

Good method to neutralize skunk scent on dogs: shampoo with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide... surprisingly effective...

Thought that I had it in three...

Yesterday, I either did something really smart, or really stupid.

Found a 2020 Harley Davidson bike frame. Touring frame and the numbers match to a Road Glide touring bike. Same frame is also used on the Road King... Guy I bought it from got it from one of those storage locker auctions and had no idea how much it was worth.

EBay has the exact same frame from $1300-2200. I got this one for $250.

So now... I need to figure out how to make a complete and operating machine out of this thing. Was up until Midnight making lists and doing research...

*sigh*... Better than standing out on a street corner with a sign that says “The End is Nigh”...
