Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Oh, yes, absolutely the Revolutionary War had to happen!

Biscuits are those things you have with grits and gravy! Or by themselves, hot from the oven with butter and jam or honey on them! Yummy!

Good morning. Happy Friday!

We have snow foreguessed for today. It should start this afternoon and go into early tomorrow morning. I guess I’ll ge doing some shoveling.

I noticed two news articles this week dealing with Christmas with people suffering from dementia. I guess that’s becoming a national concern. I know it’s made this Christmas season more stressful around here. Between caregivers expecting grandchildren and wanting to be able to leave a shift at a moment’s notice to the normal difficulty of finding someone who is willing to give up their Christmas time to work, it’s been a real pain. Maybe there will be some relief from surprise next week.

On the plus side, young ArGee is coming on Monday. It’s always a treat to have her here.

So, today I faced the usual, “Do I try A or B first? I’ll try A. B was right.”

Absolutely stuning!

Good morning. I hope you had a good rest last night. Mine was really weird. Or maybe wired. Again. I’ll probably sleep like a dead man tonight. If I can live through this dyslexia. I hate when it hits.

If I make it through the day, that is. I’ll vacuum the rugs and sweep the kitchen and bathroom today, and hope someone comes in to see it, besides the guy who’s going to replace the shower cartridge.

Chip didn’t eat again last night. I don’t know what’s going on with him.

Good Morning Friday!

Yet another week that has raced by... I think that they race even faster at this time of the year...

I guess that we didn’t realize that adding a new puppy to the mix would certainly complicate things at this time of the year...

I also tried A, when B was correct, a row later...

That reminds me that I wanted to ask Vlad to look into a student subscription to the Wall Street Journal. It’s been a while since we had a college student living at home!

I’m sorry we’re welcoming your family to join us this year, although I haven’t heard you have dementia added to the problem.. Prayers for you and yours as well.

Yesterday morning, after checking the four other places on the weather map that I’m interested in on a daily basis, we were the coldest, at 49°. The other ones were all 52°! CO, AR, NV and NC!

That’s the High Desert for you!

Thanks, our active bout on the dementia front has passed, now we are keeping an eye on M-I-L to make sure the ‘forgetfulness’ that we are seeing is from the recent stress, not anything any worse.... 🙏🏼

That’s a good idea! I love the WSJ! I don’t suppose they put out their April Fool’s Day edition any more, with all satire, do they?

Political correctness took all the fun out of cracking jokes. I mean, if we can’t laugh at ourselves in ethnic jokes, who WILL we laugh at?
