Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Not bad, thanks. I slept in until 6:00, and I’ve been puttering this morning. I’m about to go to Walmart because we’re running out of Kleenex. We’ll get something for the girl Boy Scouts holiday party.

They should have put a seat on it directly over the drive wheels then... As it is... the angle on the grips lifts the front end if you push too hard on it or try and get some of ample arse behind it...

Still looking for an affordable 2-stage scroll for the front of my lawn tractor that will hook to the PTO on it...

Good Morning!

The process of getting this puppy settled in is certainly “challenging”... he is lucky that he is beyond cute! 😂

It took me a while to get a row 3 guess in...

I have this vision of a tank of water about 90’ below the driveway and a pump with a heat-exchanger series of pipes right below the driveway so I can just continuously melt the snow as it’s falling. Of course, I’d need a storm drain opening right at the base of the driveway or getting onto the road would be ... interesting.

Not sure that would work on my property... Mississippi river is about 150yrds, and about 40’ downhill, from the back side of my line. Pretty sure it’s already wet 90’ down.

Frost line here is around 48-50” depending on severity of the January cold snap. Cave temp is around 48 degrees year round and that may not be enough to prevent 8-10” of snow accumulation or -20F icing at the surface.

Could be worth a shot though... My driveway is about 120’ from garage to street. Mostly concrete that needs to be replaced anyway. They brought in some heavy equipment when they replace the septic system and it broke the driveway... Refused to pay up to replace and court fees would have made getting them to help replace it moot... So there it sits until I can DIY...

And... um... stuff... things.

Hi. How are you? I completely forgot where I was going with all that...

You were fixin’ to install a huge steerable parabolic mirror, face down when snowing, tipping up to scan the driveway in the winter sun to flash the snow to steam.

If I can put it on a fast tracking gimbal, might be able to do something about the woodpeckers as well...

Tomorrow, I’ll probably do X/6, but yesterday, it was 3/6.

Not sure if I’m happy to be back or not, but all y’all are stuck with me! ;o])
