No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Coming up on the interval where the tank needs to come off and the filter replaced. Most folks replace the pump as well... which is also in the tank.
Going to try the ignition sensor first... Just from the number of comments I’m finding online vs possible filter/pump issue.
I hate it when you just have to try stuff to be sure of what the problem is.
We just had the light fixture go out over the kitchen island. It’s a fluorescent fixture with 4 bulbs. I’m going to just replace all 4 bulbs and hope it isn’t the ballast. If it is the ballast, I’ll have preferred to get direct-wire bulbs and bypass the ballast, but I have to buy bulbs first to find out.
Home Depot is in my future.
I’ve been slowly replacing most of my homes lights with a variety of LED’s and most of those are hooked to my home hub and RGB to boot.
Makes changing up lighting for various celebrations a bit more fun. Plus, I can turn lights on and off even when I’m not home.
Great, 4 hours shorter is not too shabby...
Not too bad if that does the trick... good luck with the fix... 🤞🏻
Good morning. Happy Twosday!
Well, the replacement bulbs didn’t work, so the problem must have been the ballast(s). Now I have to wire around those and put in the new direct-wire bulbs. This is a fun task to have in the kitchen two days before Thanksgiving. I’ll have to see what time I can take off to work on it to do as little disruption to the cooking as I can.
We had 32 fs yesterday morning when I walked The Princess and 45 fs this morning. I wonder if/when consistency will happen.
So-so Wordle today.

Good Morning All!
We picked up almost a half inch of needed rain yesterday and now have some clear weather for the rest of the week... They are guessing that our first brief dip below freezing will occur next Monday overnight into Tuesday...
If you can drop the fixtures from the ceiling it is easier to rewire them than working up there... I put in some direct wire LED tubes several years ago in the workshop and have been very happy with them...
Okay on the Wordle front today...

Well, I’m getting the, “You’re just not good at fixing stuff” again. Somehow when replacing lights in an overhead fixture with a globe I didn’t get the globe tight enough. This morning Mrs. ArGee plopped the laundry hamper on the 2nd floor right above that fixture and the globe fell off and shattered.
People don’t make mistakes, so I’m just not good at it.
I’ll take on the electrical unless we find a recommended electrician who is available right away. I probably will work overhead, though, unless this fixture is way easy to take down. I also get “You make everything so complicated” a lot.
My divorce was worth it. Every penny.
Ehhh.... everyone is a critic... maybe you can get stuff done when she is out of the house...
BTW, we learn from making those mistakes... I can guarantee you that you will never not fully tighten one of those globe covers again... for the rest of your life...
Dang. I am not people? I always suspected.
I have found though that when I am working over my head on a ladder that it hurts my back just a wee bit more then it did when I was 30.
I’m glad that worked out for you.
Well, the ballasts are out. Everything is wired. I won’t really know how well I did until I put in the Type-B LED tube bulbs, but at least resetting the breakers and turning the switch on didn’t trip anything.
Hopefully the bulbs will light this evening when I get some.
🤞🏼
Well, no, the bulbs didn’t light. An electrician said he could come around 5:30 or 6 this evening. We’ll see what I did wrong.
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
That kitteh sure is a puzzle.
We survived yesterday with all the broken glass and such. I think today is going to be mostly focused on Thanksgiving prep. Young ArGee has taken sick, so it’s just going to be the two of us. Mrs. ArGee has found a thing called Turkey Tenderloins that she hopes will give us a good meal without too many leftovers.
I had a very ordinary outing at Wordle today.
