Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

While we aren’t anywhere near the end of the internet (and I missed that adventure) this thread is getting a little long in the tooth. I don’t know who did the thread finding before or if it was only ‘Face.

Any volunteers? Any idea how this is done?

Darks used to do some scouting. Sionnsar (miss you my friend) had the graphics and humorous quips. I think Face took over when he went to the big bagpipe jam in the sky.

I think that’s going to take you more than 15 minutes...

Yeah... Hopefully worth it though. Once they are broken in they supposedly feel a lot like mocassins. Depending on how much I use them, should last a couple years.

Once they start wearing through though... pull apart the stitching and use them as a pattern.

Well...

I should point out that we have a good long time to scout around; we’ve taken the Undead Thread up to 65,535 posts, before, so it’s not like we’re hitting our Service Ceiling anytime soon.

Yes, I have a vague recollection of why threads with high post counts were discouraged in the past... it had to do with old system constraints I believe... was it something to do with having to swap memory out to slow disk drives?

I suspect that those concerns about those constraints have long been left behind... Am I sniffing glue?

I’m a UT newcomer so I only remember ‘Face scouting them out... For sentimental reasons, it might be nice to stay in this one for as long as we can, as it is the last one that ‘Face was active in...

Good morning. Happy Friday!

The Princess is groomed and looks great. She wasn’t happy to be walking in 30 fs this morning. I put her coat on her since her natural one is so short today.

We have sunshine. Hopefully it stays this way until the truck is loaded tomorrow morning.

I followed almost all the rules today at Wordle and still managed to get a 4.

Good Friday Morning All!

Has Princess ever lived at your home in the Wildlands, or will this be a new experience for her? Either way, hopefully she will enjoy the “new” location!

🤞🏻 for the move and travel to go well!

Got a lot of hints from row one and made it pretty easy...

Good morning! I’m off to work in the food warehouse this morning. Kathleen has declared an illness, and she does sound awfully phlegmy and glottal. I’ll leave her some restful copy-work to do.

Supposed to hit 60 this afternoon... Knowing MN, this could be the last time until April. I’d duck out of work early, but I’m behind on finishing this project as it is. Client is moving the goal posts... Oh well... it’s a time and materials project so the more they add on the more my company charges for the time.

👍 on the Wordle.

The Princes has visited the house. She doesn’t like some of the un-carpeted flooring. I’ve never seen a dog do this before but when she feels uncertain of her traction she backs out of wherever she is until she hits more certain flooring. It’s really funny (and silly).

Anyway, we’ll be buying some runners to help her, but it’s not going to be right away.

We have a “Throat Coat” echinacea tea that I love when my throat feels bad.

It’s actually pretty good when I’m feeling healthy, too. I don’t know if Kathleen likes tea, but this is good stuff.
