No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good Morning!
Hoping that Veteran’s Day is a good one for all that served...
I’m glad that you mentioned that about Rockpapershotgun... the other source that I used is https://www.techradar.com and they did NOT show it as a used word... I thought that I may have been losing my mind...

Rain’s a-comin’ in, but — we’ll see.
Among my other ‘fatigues’ is one reserved for prognosticators of weather.

Today’s solution was a term I hadn’t heard in a very long time.

Certainly an odd one... didn’t help that the main “used word” source that I use said that it had already been used...
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
Our late Monday snow actually left some white on the ground. We had flurries all day yesterday (on and off) and it’s flurrying right now. The landlord thinks it’s the area’s way of wishing us goodbye. It feels like it’s the area’s way of saying “Leave already!”
We got lots of stuff done yesterday. There’s almost no place to sit that isn’t wrapped for loading. The next couple of days will be fun.
Wordle was so-so today.

Good Midweek Morning!
Surprisingly, down here in Central Texas we got to see a bit of the “Northern Lights” last night... not very visible to the naked eye, but my phone camera picked it up fairly well...
Wordle was okay today, good row clues...

Took over an hour for me to guess through this one...
The truck will come here Saturday morning. We’ll pull out soon after they leave. We’ll get there in about 6 hours. The truck will arrive the next morning.
Best wishes and traveling mercies on all of that! 6 hours isn’t too bad...
It depends on the route we take. Mrs. ArGee doesn’t like traffic so she likes me to go the “horror movie highway.” That’s where there’s so little traffic and so little civilization that if your car breaks down there’s nobody to as for help except Rocky Horror or his ilk.
I like the other two options, but the odds are not with me winning the argument.
As long as you get there safe and sound, I guess any route is OK...
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
It’s gotten a little warmer here. All the white stuff is gone. It’s still cloudy, though. Fortunately we don’t have any more rain foreguessed until after we’re expected to be gone. I hope the professional guessers are right this time.
The Princess gets her last grooming here today. I hope we can find as good a groomer in The Wildlands.
I was all kinds of stupid doing Wordle today. I’m amazed I got it in 4. Maybe I’m being too smart other days.

Not much going on here... pretty seasonable temps through the weekend... promises of rain throughout most of next week... well shall see...
Lucky stab on row two made it a snap...

Still got it though...
Kitteh looks comfy and more ready for this colder weather than I am.
In my recent investigations in to craftiness, RenFest nerdery, and Viking re-enactment... I find myself trying to make my own shoes.
6th to 10th Century leather turn shoes to be exact. Using a 10-12 oz veg tanned leather for the soles and 8 oz for the uppers with hand-cut leather lace closure. It’s... not as easy as the videos make it sound.
Pictures please?
Still in pieces... Only have the soles cut so far.
Aiming for something like these... There are other designs, but these seem like the kind of thing some person in the middle of nowhere would be able to put together and use.
