No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good morning. Happy Friday!
It looks like we got some Melissa weather this morning. It was raining pretty hard when I walked The Princess this morning. Fortunately she got everything done. But she noted that she doesn’t see us using the toilet in the shower.
It was surprisingly warm in the low 50s this morning, too.
Mrs. ArGee is doing an initial distribution of actual money to her siblings next week. Two of them wanted wire transfers. The lawyer vetoed that idea. He said if a wire transfer goes wrong you can’t do anything about it. And we can’t expect to come back to this burg 2 more times to do the remaining transfers. So we’re mailing checks - period. Considering it came from the lawyer, the siblings relented.
Of course, we have to wait until after the move to deposit our checks because there’s no brick-and-mortar branch nearby.
Wordle treated me well today.

Yeah, I took a while staring at what I knew from the first two guesses trying to come up with anything that would work for guess 3.
I managed to catch myself before entering one of my favorite unforced errors, using a letter in a place I already knew it didn’t belong.
I don’t know how many of you are Star Trek TOS fans. I still monitor my F-I-L’s old email inbox, until Spectrum takes it away. He got an email today from Herbert.
It made me think of that episode with the hippies who kept calling Kirk “Herbert” because that represented a straight-laced by-the-book administrative flunky.
Yes, I hate when I get excited and put a letter where they already told me that it doesn’t go there….
I used to watch the original Star Trek programs, but never really got into any of the follow on series….
Same. It’s hard to really like a Star Trek version when you always want to kick the first officer in his smarmy smile. After that it was like, ‘Meh!’
Although Zoe Saldana as Lt. Uhura is OK by me!
Reminds me of all those times in an action comedy when the one person says, “You’re lucky there’s this door between us!” and then the door starts to open.
I finished my CosPlay project for my youngest last night: A pair of Vi's gauntlets from the "Arcane" series.
We succeeded in getting articulated fingers with the knuckles made using sprung "hinge" pieces from toggle bolts, and flexed via monofilament "tendons" running from the fingertip sections to rings inside the gauntlets.
The frames were hot-formed PVC pipe sections with 4" couplings serving as the entry points for the wearer's arms.
The outer shells were constructed using black 10mm EVA foam, which cuts marvelously with a SHARP Exacto blade, bonds well with hot glue, and takes paint pretty nicely.
This is our THIRD crafting project in three months, and by far the most ambitious.
Last month I used gap-filling foam in an open-top mold cavity with a length of 1/2" PVC pipe running up the middle to create play sword forms for a Percy Jackson themed party. The guests used various colors of duct tape to wrap their swords to personalize them, then went outside and had a war. The PVC on the inside gave structure and the tape on the outside kept everything together.
And the month before that, I refinished a 70's vintage Kryptonics Cruiser-style skateboard with a custom logo on the bottom of the deck and fresh blue/black fade deck tape on top. I rebuilt the trucks with fresh rubber and it's back on the streets again.
I'm planning to take 3-1/2 weeks off spanning Christmas and New Year's Day. I think it's deserved. LOL!
Today's second row gave me the ammo though it took awhile to get to the "Ah-haa!"

Sounds like some great projects.... and a lot of fun too!
Prayers the trip was restfully fun.

I’m the one in the sweatshirt with the hood up. It was cold.
The whole trip went really well. Restful sleep, plenty of time to sit and read a book, and a fun morning of kayaking in really nice forest.
You sound like a very crafty and motivated person. Perhaps when we’re out of this “temporary” living situation I’ll find something new to be motivated about. I’m likely to never be more crafty, though, except when putting bits into a ‘puter.
Good morning. Happy Monday.
NYC gets Election Day off, so I’ll have nothing more purposeful to do tomorrow than vote. We can’t do much more pre-packing for our move while B-I-L is here. He’s going to be re-packing some of the stuff he has in storage, but he’s not taking it home yet. They want to do some prep work before they bring in their “new” furniture.
It’s gotten colder here, again. It has been 30 fs the last 3 mornings when walking The Princess.
I’m on a 3-streak with Wordle.
