Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

The Princess is pretty chill.

Grey-ish, cool, and breezy today; especially bay-side. A thinnish layer of fog extends westward to more substantial cloudiness pretending, at least, to contemplate something remotely resembling rain. It's the sort of day where it will likely rain if you don't grab your umbrella, but won't if you do.

This is the time of year where — in the face of the onrushing holidays — I begin to embody something of the grim demeanor of Professor Aronnax and his companions making their bid to escape the Nautilus. The first weekend in January will see the recovery of my serenity, but it will soon be the hour of my Exodus from the cultural madness.

No "Right Letter; Wrong Place" indicators on today's outing. One of Wordle's textbook tricks boogered me up at the end or I would've had it in four.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

Mrs. ArGee and The Princess made it to and from the vet appointment OK yesterday. There was a pretty serious squall here while they were gone, but apparently they didn’t have to drive through it so that was good.

I’m getting really tired of replacing “9 year” LED bulbs after about 2 years. Apparently to get the 9 years you have to upgrade the wiring in your home. The more expensive LEDs can handle the poorer wiring better. So catch-22 is alive and well.

Can we get incandescents back?

Wordle was a game of “wack-a-mole” today. Not THAT word with those 2 letters. Not THAT word with those two letters. Even once I got the right word for guess 4 it was actually one of 4 I had in my mind to try.

Good morning. Happy Thor’s Day!

Sally and Georgia are coming over today to work on Kathleen’s schoolwork. Or something. Gets them out of the house, at least.

Good Morning!

I’ve lost track of the issue, what is the status on incandescents? Any chance of them coming back?

After that setup, I was hoping to get it in two...

That was pretty close to two.

Incandescent bulbs weren’t green enough. Maybe they’re actually at stores outside of NYS.

I will have to look in stores to see if there are any around... I have a stock of them that I bought during the initial attack on them (I guess that was in the 0bam years) and some more before the last scare... lately Mrs. zz is interested in these programmable LEDs that she uses to set all sorts of schedules and timers... the problem is that almost all are from China and fail quickly, aside from the threat of them harvesting data from the phone you use to control them...

A couple of years ago I tried to find US made programmable LEDs for a couple of wall sconces that I made... I didn’t want the issues of the early failures, etc. The closest I found at the time were from Feit... not quite US made but made from US components... and they were in the process of building a factory somewhere in the US (was it TN?) that would be making these bulbs in the near future...

So far they have been the most reliable ones that we have... 🤞🏻

Happy Friday Eve.

Bright and Sunny, but still cold. Supposed to warm up a bit for the weekend... which is good because I have about 400 bushels of leaves to rake and dispose of.
