Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

It’s the seller’s decision. Too bad about the brother, but maybe he’ll find something else nearby.

Whew. Glad I’m not in the middle of that mess.

Hope it all resolves well.

I agree. Hopefully he won’t threaten legal action. He may not have a case, but we’d still have to defend it.

I can’t see that there are any grounds for legal action…. You are free to accept whichever offer you choose, or none at all….

It’s nice that the house is going to a young couple as opposed to BlackRock, Vanguard or State Street.

He might have tried age discrimination. But apparently he didn’t. Mrs. ArGee will sign the contract today after the estate lawyer’s review and we’ll move toward making the house ready for closing.

The buyers have expressed interest in some of the stuff we were going to have to get rid of, like a riding lawnmower. It will be nice if they take stuff.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

NO BITING!!!!!

The Princess gets clipped today. I think she’ll be happy to be shorter. It’s been kind-of warm for her. She thinks 7 weeks is too long.

With a sales contract signing today we move into getting ready to get out of dodge mode. I don’t know if we give a date to the complex before we have a formal closing date from the buyers’ bank. We’ll have to see.

I haven’t solved the Wordle yet. I’m on guess 3 and I have no ideas with the information I have. Well, I have one but it’s already been a winner. I’ll post it when I get it.

Good Midweek Morning!

We had a hint of some rain last evening but it didn’t pan out... maybe later today or this evening...

Hmmm, I am not sure that today’s word is a proper English word... 🙃

Wordle 1,516 4/6*

⬛🟨🟨⬛⬛
🟨🟨⬛⬛🟨
🟨⬛🟨🟨🟩

Happy Wednesday. It was supposed to rain today, but the sun is up and shining brightly now... Weird.

As for today’s word... I actually screwed up the second guess... had 3 letters going in to the 3rd guess and two of which were in proper position. However, I literally just started popping random letters in because nothing made sense.

Eventually lucked into the correct word...

Wordle 1,516 3/6

🟨🟩⬜⬜⬜
⬜🟩🟩⬜⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Feels like a cheap victory as I didn’t even know what it was until I looked up the word in the Googles...

I am beginning to wonder what the word list contains... it is now looking like it has been expanded to include words used in English speaking countries....

Well, if the two of you found it by crook instead of by hook then I don’t feel so bad at not having had the time to just throw letters at it yet.

By that time letter elimination (and position elimination) led me to that being the only one that would fit... 🤷🏽‍♂️

OK, so finally got there by doing some easy mode letter elimination and using the one word that I knew had already won (I needed to figure out where letters went). My 5th guess I didn’t think would be a word. For my 6th guess I went through all the options in my mind and didn’t come up with anything. So I just started systematically plugging in pairs of letters until something was accepted.

Not exactly a fun puzzle today.

It took me a bit over an hour of going through letter combos... I actually started writing some of them down so I didn’t dupe my guesses.

And yes, I’ve had to do this before too... I may be smart, according to some, but I’m not THAT smart.

My daughter Elen says she got a terrible haircut, so she just had her head shaved. “Now I know why you like short hair so much!”

At least Elen (former USMC) should be used to a shaved head.

I hope everything else is going OK with her.
