No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Very clever! and effective I suspect...
Probably after a few tries, they would give up.
Good morning. Happy Monday!
We had a nearly normal weekend as we’re waiting for the house to go on the market. Unfortunately, the mice seem to have found another way into the basement. I think I know where but it will probably require a handyman to resolve it. For now we’ll try to keep the area clean for showings.
It’s been so normal that Mrs. ArGee is starting to talk about how we’re going to change things at our house after we move back.
Oh, and I finally decided her stress level was low enough to tell her about the papers I found. She told me I could shred them. I don’t know if it reminded her of her pain, but it didn’t seem to change much that I saw so it’s all good.
It was 58 fs this morning heading for a high of 88. These 30 degree swings are killer.
Wordle was pretty normal today. Yesterday took 5 tries but that’s because my first word was a total wiff.

Happy rainy Monday. At least the air doesn’t smell like burnt Kanukistan and the grey overcast is due to storm clouds.

Let’s get this week rolling...
Rainy Monday morning here too... a bit on the stormy side... should clear up by the afternoon... maybe this will keep some of the dust down for a day or so...
So so Wordle for me...

Nice to hear of someone having weather; the West Coast can offer so many days of the same thing that I get a little envious of others getting some variation.
Sun. Sky. Warm at home. Cooler at the office.
Got pics and email from #1 Daughter over the weekend. Seeing da yutes stand on their own two legs and thrive feels good. I’m among the younger of all my cousins who were, for the most part fairly focused along specific directions, so the Aunts and Uncles had a lot of successes to recount at the various family gatherings. The... uhhh... “pucker factor” connected with kids leaving the nest didn’t occur to me until my own began launching out into the wild.
...
About rounded the corners on this tough nut trying to get it loose.

Mrs. ArGee is at the estate supervising the loading of one of her sisters’ choices for furniture. The furniture is actually going to our niece who just got married and is going to have a really nice (if old) bedroom suite.
It was a little warmer this morning, but still not up to the normal 70 fs.
Our management notified us rather last minute last week that we were getting a new waste pickup service provider. Yesterday, the old trash day, they notified us the new trash day is Thursday. There are a lot of very full trash bins in the complex. I hope everyone makes it to Thursday.
Wordle was kind to me today. After guess #2 it didn’t have much choice.

Good morning. Congrats on the Wordle and the progress of the estate. This reminds me to work on getting rid of more stuff.
It’s raining here. Kathleen is signed up to work at the stable; we’re waiting to hear whether this is going to happen or not. It’s supposed to rain all day. I think the universe wants me to work on school scheduling and Envirothon quiz questions.
It is certainly an adventure at times!
Except, of course, it’s Twosday!
It’s tough when you have plans and the universe gets in the way.
Good Morning!
Our day of rain has passed and we are back in the clear... fairly seasonable temps as well...
I had a similar experience on the Wordle front...

Are they actively trying to put them out, or just letting them burn?
I have no idea... It doesn’t seem like they are doing much to mitigate it though. Mostly, their news sources are focusing on blaming “man made global climate change” rather than their own inability to actually manage their forests or the fires.
Yeah, we did exactly the same on guess #2.
