Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

This is your local Sheriff exercising the Constitutional discretion of their powers to shield citizens from the calumnies of their State tyrants.

It is much the same in CA where MANY County Sheriffs and Deputies encounter violations of California’s moronic gun laws, and their response is mostly along the lines of ignoring them, because The Democrat-dominated Legislature is an insufferable ASS with dictatorial tendencies.

The irony is never lost on me that — in the spirit of “Takes on to know one” — those who most frequently screech “HITLER!” at their political opponents most accurately emulate him. Thus, yet again, everything I really needed to know I learned in Kindergarten.

ZERO CHANCE I’d EVER let on to any authority in the UK that I had the least inkling as to the whereabouts, or even the simple existence, of any sort of firearm on my property.

NONE WHATSOEVER.

ABSOLUTELY the best Authority is one that’s IGNORANT.
“He governs best that governs least,” and he governs least that which, uhhh... “escapes” his notice.

Long story short on this fictional tale (though I suspect was written close to reality as the rest of the police procedures are in the series): A mother was concerned that she found a pistol in a box in daughter’s room while cleaning...

She mentions it to a DCI that she knows... his instinct is to go over to the house quietly and pick it up and bring it to the station... his underlings recoil at the breach of procedure and convince him to handle this ‘by the book.’

An Armed Response Unit (ARM) is sent over to the house... it looks like a dozen or more SWAT style officers... they breach the house by battering down the door and in the ensuing panic and confusion, the elderly father comes out of the kitchen with his cane raised and is promptly tazed very close to the heart... he drops with a heart attack and dies a couple of days later in the hospital...

All because this bizarre fear of the presence of an inanimate object on the premise at the top of armoire in a girl’s empty bedroom... a great part of their ‘standard procedure’ entailed hyping the presence of this inanimate object into a fire breathing dragon... the ARU members were practically hyper-ventilating as they charged around the house...

Just reminding us all...

Guns don’t kill people. The state kills people.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

We have selected a realtor. A contract has to be reviewed and signed, but after that the house goes on the market.

It’s getting to be summer-y again. It was in the 60s when I walked The Princess this morning. The guessed high is 90.

I feel like Wordle is trying to make up for last Friday.

Nice and sunny and relatively dry today... who could ask for anything more?

Good luck with your listing agent!

How is the market for comparable homes in the area?

Right now it’s a slightly buyer’s market. There really aren’t many comps. We seem to be in a good place in terms of other homes with the same size/bed/bath combination and in terms of price/foot when comparing to other configs. We’re about 20K less than what the appraisal said, which should generate the right amount of interest.

We’ll see how the strategy works.
