Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I am pretty sure she doesn’t know it was ever there. If she knew, she would have asked me to keep an eye out for it.

I’m not really sure why her dad kept it, except he didn’t seem to ever throw anything away.

The one thing I will agree with is if I ever let slip (and I read much less of it than Nully was suggesting to figure out what I was holding) then there would be a very hot place to pay.

Honesty is better... even if painful in the short term.

I hid things, now I’m divorced. Take that for what it is...

If it's a court record, then it's possible a copy could be ordered should she ever recognize a need to see it.

If so, there is no need to keep this copy.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Ditto on the “slept poorly” part; I slept hardly at all.

Office is “green” so AC is gradual, and pretty much non-existent until late morning; interior air is muggy first thing, amplifying whatever grogginess one may have schlepped to work with them. o.*YYAAAWWWNNN.O*

Surprising turn at the daily Wordle. Haven’t seen a two in I dunno how long.

Nice job on the Wordle.

So, if one sleeps hardly, is that because one was sleeping lightly?

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

This is more like a Friday.

Does anyone else get tired of being wished a "Happy 4th" instead of "Happy Independence Day?" Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

Which reminds me of something I saw once:

Say something good about the UK.

They are responsible for more Independence Day celebrations than any other nation.

Anyway, the locality had their fireworks display last night. We could see it out our bedroom window. The Princess was not happy with the noise, though.

Tough Wordling today.

Sleep? I remember getting a full nights sleep once... Last night I was in bed by 2230... Was still tossing and turning at 0130... And of course, the alarm goes off at 0545...

The good side is, weather is BEAUTIFUL so I rode Abby in this AM. Here on a client site for a few hours, then back home. I have an 8-10 hour cook I need to do on a pulled pork shoulder I’m doing for family festivities at my Sister’s lake cabin “up North”.

I’m on-call this weekend, so I’ll have my work phone and laptop with me... Not ideal, but not the worst that could happen either.

All of a sudden the sunny forecast for the next few days turned to cloudy and rainy.... 🙃

This week we’ve had 90° weather, thunder, lightning, rain, hail.

Oh, and fires, did I mention fires?

Have you looked into (or had reason to look into) StarLink for when you’re on call and not near to civilization?
