No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
I love me some Marmalades!
Good morning. I hope you had a good sleep. Did Tom come to do his laundry?
I slept fairly well last night, though at times I was in that border region. But strange dreams were the Order Of the Night.
The shower is done with and I think I’m ready to face the day. I have one uplifting talk under my belt and may try for a second one, if it’s not too long. I don’t like being rushed.
PW sent me a photo of the “Christmas decorations,” since they will be spending Christmas week in Washington County. It was their little Christmas tree, seated on the table with unique decorations. Really pretty! I don’t know how my visiting is going to go, because I don’t think I want to make the 30+ mile drive into Bloomington and then back. I’ll have to explain it to FS and PW when I have a chance.
My office chair has a wonky wheel. I don’t think it can be fixed. It doesn’t want to roll, any more. I felt a jolt one day as I was sitting here, and one leg dropped. It has five, but it doesn’t want to pivot, now.
*yawn* ‘morning.
Good morning. The bros have issues with their office chairs, too.
If you’re concerned about your ability to drive safely, please don’t drive. If they can’t come to you, that’s on them.
Howdy!
How are things in your neck of the woods?
Almost sleeping through the night. Tyson needs to go out at midnight or so, and to be reassured at 3:00-3:30...
I’m concerned about the dizzy spells because they hit when I get stressed, and it has more to do with my A-Fib than anything. The doc says, I’m “always in A-Fib,” so there’s no safe time to drive that far. I can do it around town, because there is always someone who can come and get me if I need it. But going to George is something else. Roy lives way on the southwest side of George, so it’s probably closer to 40 miles than 30. Add traffic to that and the trip could take over an hour to get there.
So you’re right — if they want me to visit with them, they can come and get me! I just don’t want to take a chance. I might be crazy, but I’m not on the Far Side of sanity!
We had a nice lesson in Relief Society today, and the theme was “The Bread of Life.” I thought, about half-way through, that I could smell bread baking, and when we left, we got to stop by the kitchen and pick up a mini-loaf of bread!! And a pencil sketch of Jesus Christ. It’s a beautiful sketch!
My balance was really off by the time I left. I tried to get up to leave and just as quickly, sat back down. Not my choice! My body was playing games. Then, on my way through the hall to leave, I dropped my car keys and realized if I bent over to pick them up, I would just keep going.
Thankfully, one of the gals that was just behind me and to my left offered to pick them up. I felt like I couldn’t get home fast enough! But I’m safe and sound, so all’s well that ends.
It was nice of the Relief Society to give everyone loaves. We had a lot of choir today, and now we’re tired. Tomorrow, Kathleen and I will have to deliver more wreaths from the girl Boy Scouts.
Busy time, tomorrow for you!
I want to hang the skates, but I’m afraid the sun will fade them, having almost all daylight hours shining on them. Still, I might be able to do it for two weeks without too much damage. I do have paint left, so I can touch them up if need be, so maybe I’ll do that — hang them on the door on the 11th and take them off on Boxing Day!
I didn’t make them to hide them in the closet!
If they fade, you can just get more paint and touch them up!
I already have the paint and I think there’s part of the roll of gold braid, so the only thing I’d have to buy would be laces.
Ima finish my brekkity and then go wash clothes. Miserable night. I was awake for almost two hours, and when I finally went back to sleep, I died. The alarm rang and I thought it was a phone ringing. Arrgh. Someone answer that!!!
So off I go!
Good luck. It’s raining here.
Looks like kitty is in Seventh Heaven!
Good morning. I hope you had a good night.
Good luck with your deliveries this morning.
The worst part of my day is over with, and I’m off to take a nap. Hopefully, I’ll wake up by 0700. I’ll set the alarm to make sure. There are things to do, when I wake up, besides just hanging the dainties, so I need all the sleep I can get. It was only 35° when I headed out the door, and from now on, it will get warmer.
Life is good!
I hope you feel rested when you get up again! Seeya ...
Good morning. Happy Monday!
We had a little snow Friday night into Saturday but otherwise it’s been decent weather. We’re supposed to have rain this afternoon.
M-I-L’s moods are still swinging. I think she doesn’t like it when a caregiver she doesn’t know well is in the house, especially overnight. Hopefully she’ll get used to them all.
I finally got the computer running for the TV and removed the cable TV boxes. Now to cancel the service and return everything.
Another par Wordle.

Good Monday Morning!
F-I-L passed away quietly at about 8PM last evening... M-I-L was there alone at his bedside (as she wanted it)... the whole family in the area (4 of his 5 children and spouses) gathered at our home to await M-I-L’s return... it was subdued and much relief was expressed that he didn’t linger any longer than he did...
On the Wordle front I finally broke my long string of 4s, but in the wrong direction...
