Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good Friday Morning!

Life is certainly more pleasant with the threat of damaging boomers lurking in the sky every afternoon and evening... even though it is a bit too muggy, the sunshine sort of neutralizes that...

My attempt at the 18th hole went according to the guidance, but a bit better... Best tee shot of the round put me in perfect position to use a fairway wood with a measured stroke to get on in two... sank a fairly easy putt for the Birdie 3...

Yes, I had gone back and checked your scores, on hole 12 (Wordle 1,412) I had recorded your 3 as a 4 in the spreadsheet... sorry about that!

After HKMk plays the 18th, we will publish the scorecard for the round... no doubt as to who gets the trophy for the round! ⛳️

LUNCH!

I had picked up a rib primal to cut up in to various other parcels of meat. Ribeye steaks, a roast, burger... That kind of thing...

Saved off the fat trimmings and tried to flense as much of the actual meat from the trimmings as I could. Came up with quite a bit more than I had expected... around a half a pound. So for lunch I decided I’d fry up the trimmings with some salt, butter, red wine and let it brown down. Added half a yellow onion and half a orange bell pepper. Tossed in a few sweat pea pods and some udon noddles... a bit of hoison and sriracha...

Wow... Turned out amazing. Rib trimmings, from between the rib bones and the prime cut, are some of the most tender on a bovine. This was just a “lets toss this in and see if it works” and it ended up something I would be proud to serve to guests...

I have Country style pork ribs in the smoker right now for dinner...

I think I’m starting to see why it’s hard for me to keep my weight down. There are klews.

Now if you can just remember all that stuff you threw in so you can actually serve it to guests.

There is a slim chance of that... Other than the beef... it was mostly veggies.

And some salt, pepper, hoison sauce, garlic, sesame oil, red cooking wine, butter...

Yeah... Never gonna happen again.

Looking forward to a beautiful weekend of sunny weather in the mid-80s. Got a social event on my calendar for Saturday evening, so I’ll get out and hang with friends. Then plans to see Mom for the Mothers Day honors.

Out on the links...

On in two. [Yaaay!]
In in two. [Aaugh.]

Another case of good play down the fairway foiled by an inconsistent short game delivered the one-two punch of a one-two putt that closed out my play on this round at even par.

Eagle!
Birdie.

Nice close-out play.

I’ll join you on the 19th, but — after the round I’ve had — it’ll be a Long Island for me.

Was going to go hang out with Mom on Sunday... But it turns out there’s a flu bug going around and it is my Parents turn to catch it. She called off the festivities.

I have plans to catch a performance Sunday night. Front row seat.

Both of our mothers are gone, now.

I used to always say Mrs. ArGee isn’t my mother, but given what she’s gone through these last few months I may do something special for her anyway. Perhaps go get some bagels from the local bagelry. (is that a word?)

Interesting. Sort of a cirque de macabre.

Too bad costumes aren’t allowed, but perhaps that’s for the best; some attendees might take things too far.
