No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
They are brutal...
We discovered that if you scrub them very firmly with a rag dipped in alcohol for several minutes... then cut up Benadryl liqui-caps and rub that over the bites, that it won’t be quite as bad...
I knelt down on the ground for a minute to adjust the belt under the mower, when I stood up, all of a sudden in felt like my knees were burning... sure enough... fire ants!
Unnngh.

Happy First of May.
The official foreguess puts us at a high of 71 today bringing rain this evening. Then 70s again tomorrow before dropping back into the 60s for the first part of next week. It doesn’t look good for the burial site on Monday.
For my first shot today I landed just in that goose-neck to the right of the sand trap/gorge about 300 yards from the tee. From there I put the ball on the green about 10 feet from the cup. A lucky putt put me in for the birdie.

Boomers came last night as promised... we avoided the worst of it thankfully...
My best drive of the round and a generous roll put me in easy striking distance of the green... I over-swung with my 7 iron and hit the mounded apron on the far side of the green but got a nice roll back down to very near the cup... it was an easy putt for the Birdie 3...

Grey and kinda rainy today with more cloudy weather on tap for tomorrow.
But then, we actually... finally... no foolin’ warm up on Saturday in to next week with temps in the upper 70’s. Might do some moto-camping this weekend if I can find a “spur of the moment” place to get a spot in.
Well... hitting the driving range seemed to help with my back swing off the tee. The Ping did me such good service on the first drive, I decicded to risk a fairway shot with it as a follow up. Dropped me right on the green just up the curve from the hole. Easy downhill putt to the cup.

This is when the professional weather foreguessers dash your hopes to the ground by updating their forecast to a May blizzard.
"They have hope. I'll crush that first."
Playing off the 10th tee, trailing at 4 over, I just felt had to “go big or go home,” at this point. So I drove to the LEFT of that tree in the fairway, OVER the Slough of Despond and found a safe lie in the fairway about 290 yards distant.
From there, with under 100yd to the cup, I played a strong 7-iron to the heart of the green where my ball dropped, hopped, rolled, and vanished into the hole for the Eagle.
I want to believe this is “turning the corner” here as I begin my play down the back nine, but we shall see. I’m certainly not holding my breath.
On to 11, now at just 2 over on the round.

We have a few days of wet weather on tap. It looks like it might be not raining at the burial site on Monday, but the guess will likely change between now and then.
Things are a little quiet as Mrs. ArGee gets ready for the family walkthrough of the house. B-I-L arrives at 11:00 tonight. We’re going to try to do the normal Princess Food Assembly tomorrow morning since he tends to sleep in when he first arrives. Then we’ll see what the weekend brings.
The golf course site suggested an aggressive drive to the green could work but has risks. I decided to take the risk and managed a drive that landed me about 8 feet from the cup. A surprising putt allowed me to sink it in 2 for the eagle.

Completely flubbed the tee shot... regrouped from about 10 feet away and let it fly... got very close to the green on two and chipped up... with an unbelievably lucky roll it fell in for the Birdie 3...
