No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Wait until it snows in August!
Almost like Alaska ... last snow in August, first snow in September.
It gets a bit warmer in the summer, usually...
I blame global warming.
Right up to when the AMOC flips...
That’ll be fun!
Fascinating.
I know exactly what that cat means!
Good Monday Morning!
Aside from two extra, unplanned trips to the Lowe’s in Waco, it was a pretty good weekend... sort of ‘blah’ weatherwise, warm, muggy, cloudy... we seem to be in a pattern of this for a while...
Very rough Wordle weekend... good thing that they were practice holes (a 6 and a 5!)...
Closing out the front nine I got a pretty good shot off the tee and ended up close enough to use the 7 iron to get on the green... first putt was lined up well but didn’t have the legs... had to tap in for the par 4...

Making the turn, I will head to the 10th hole with a 34, staying at 2 under...
Howdy All...
Had my kids this weekend. Pete’s 18th BD is this Saturday and he’s having a Party at the Ex-wife’s house. So this weekend was my side. Found a great, but crowded, BBQ place for a geat meal. Had a fight with my youngest last night during dinner which left things on kind of a sour note... She’s got some issues that I won’t put up with in my house no matter what her Mom let’s her get away with.
Sliced it off the tee for a depressingly short drive. Followed it up with a couple of excellent iron shots that put me close to the hole. An easy putt and on to the next hole.

Great BBQ is good to find! Raising teens these days can be tough, especially the female versions from what I can see of the grands...
You noted something the other day about your 4 wheeled mode of transportation to work... I was going to comment but forgot... it reminded me of an old song, Girls of Winter by Don Henley... “out on the road today, saw a Dead Corpse sticker on a Cadillac...” was it you that he saw?
When we get ArGee’s hole 9 and when HKMk can check in with his last few holes we can look at the scorecard for the front nine... I believe that you have a nice lead...
Good morning. Happy Monday.
We had a quiet weekend here, but it was a little wet. That cooled things off to the point where it was about 39 when I walked The Princess this morning. But then it’s suppose to get into the upper 70s today, if the guessers are correct, and then back to cooler tomorrow.
I played today’s hole nice and safe. I thought I might actually get to the green on my second shot but no such luck. So with 3 to the green and a fairly easy putt I was able to make par.

Unfortunately, no. My nom de guerre has never proven to be a marketable subroquette.
Pretty sure Healy was referencing “Dead Head” as in Grateful Dead. Not sure how that line is supposed to read from there... Was it a statement that hippy culture got rich enough to buy a Caddy? Or was it that counter culter icons like the GD were mainstreamed enough to be attractive to the afluent?
Dunno... I don’t particularly care for that song nor for the Grateful Dead...
My Cadillac was purchased at auction and I have had to do some rather significant “shade tree” surgery on it to get it back on the road.
I like the song. I always thought Henley was pointing out that the counter-culture had sold out and become wealthy. He was dealing with change a’la losing his love.
Ya, it was Head, not Corpse, I was just funning around with that…
I always thought that it was more that the fan base had gotten older and had more means….
Not a good close-out to the front nine, today.
After par performances on 5, 6, 7 and 8, I fell through the cracks out here on the 9th and dropped yet another two strokes.
I got decent distance, but too far right off the tee, and put the shot into the hillside foliage out-of-bounds. Taking the penalty stroke, my dropped ball was still in the rough and the green mostly eclipsed by small trees and bushes. Stepping into the fairway, I got my bearings, then put a 9-iron shot up over the greenery, but chopping out of the rough robbed me of range, and I dropped short of the right edge of the green into that aptly-described depression. Chipping on OK I found a hopeful lie within 8ft of the cup, then proceeded to two-putt the green.
Thus my excursion down the front nine ends with me trailing at 4 over.
