Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

But especially for someone who has to keep asking others about his score.

“Uh - you’re still losing by a lot.”

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

Yesterday Mrs. ArGee found condiments in the Zombie Apocalypse Shelter of the basement. I’m sure you could survive a long time with peanut butter and ketchup.

Today I played it pretty much like that flyover tool on the course. A 230 yard stroke put me in the second cutout. A too-conservative 100 yard stoke put me on that cutout right before the green. I chipped it onto the green pretty close to the hole in my third shot allowing for an easy tap in for par.

In Wordle terms, though my first guess couldn’t have yielded more useless results. Even no correct letters would have been easier to work with.

Good Midweek Morning!

Well we had a surprise very early this morning... fairly heavy rain passed through that was not foreguessed... I specifically checked late yesterday and we weren’t supposed to have anything until this evening... hence I left my tractor out in the pasture uncovered... it is fine, I just have to go and fetch my cloth padded seat cover and bring it in to dry...

On hole 6 I had an awful tee shot having topped it a bit and was lucky that I had a playable lie... another topped shot got me down in the wavy fringe on the near side of the green... chipped up and watched the ball roll to and fro before settled in a little valley... amazingly my putt traveled in and out of the valleys and ended up about 5 feet from the pin... I tapped in for the Bogey 5...

Marvelous ride in this morning, cool without being cold. I did take the freeway though, when I normally take back roads... so I ran in to some of the usual commute time stupidity including a Road Pirate collecting a Speed Tax from an unwary driver.

Speaking of driving... My Ping let me down with a desulutry whack off the tee. #3 Wood out of frustrations seemed to inch me further down the fairway. #1 iron started to slice on me a bit, but at least I can now see the green. Grabbed the #9 iron instead of the 7 and drropped the ball on the fringe of the green. A long curving putt stuck me next to the hole and tapped it in to close it out.

No rodentia to blame for this one...

I “back the Blue” when they are doing the job of “serving and protecting”...

But not when they are trying to get us to “pick up that can”, “respekt muh authorituh”, or enforcing blatantly unConstitutional laws...

In this instance, the Trooper’s roadside interaction backed up 3 lanes of fast moving highway for literally miles because he decided to pull over 1 person.

Reckless endangerment is one thing... Sure... pull that person off the road... I get that... Trying to shave a few minutes off your commute but not endagering my fellow travelers? I’m a bit less sanguine about...

Back in the 80s I was visiting LA for work. One of the people at the company I was working for told of being in the right-most lane, where he normally traveled because he drove 55 MPH (the national limit at the time). He got behind a military convoy going 40 MPH and decided to pass. So he moved into the next-to-rightmost lane.

He was given a ticket for obstructing traffic by going 55 outside of the rightmost lane.

I’m sure the officer didn’t obstruct any traffic giving him the ticked. Nope. Nope. Surely not.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

The nice thing about adding kittehs to your architectural embellishments is they automatically make your design classic.

It was almost 50 fs this morning when I walked The Princess. It’s supposed to hit almost 80 today. That’s not expected to last, though.

Yesterday was T-Shirt and Skirt day at the homestead. Mostly new with the tags still in them. M-I-L obviously went through periods (or maybe one long one) where everything was “not right” inside. It’s making Mrs. ArGee a little sad.

One of the sisters who lives relatively close wants to walk through the house next week because she doesn’t remember everything that was there. B-I-L wants to be in attendance, but he has to make arrangements to fly out. I fear a potential kerfluffle over this.

What was supposed to be a fairly easy hole just wasn’t today. I ALMOST made it to the green on my first drive, which means I rolled back into the left sand trap in that little valley before the green. It took me two shots to get back onto the green, then my putt went just shy of the cup so I had to tap it in. Double-bogey on hole 7 for me.

I would be sad, too. I was sad going through my mother’s things, even though I had to do it extremely quickly, and most of the stuff had been cleared last fall when she moved to assisted living.

I hope to leave my survivors nothing but a bed, a handful of books, and my short-person chair.

Good Morning!

Last couple of days have felt like a central American jungle out there... hoping for a bit of relief this weekend...

On the 7th hole I was short off the tee and ended up in the larger bunker to the right... completely muffed my first pitch out and ended up 3 feet closer... finally got on in 3... what a wavy gravy green! My first putt rolled far to the right... ending up about 12 feet from the cup... it looked like a fairly straight roll down from there and I tapped it home for the double bogey 5...

Rain inbound, so I drove the Caddy to the client to day. My Dad’s 79th BD today. Having a combined BD party on Saturday for both him and my Son. Son is turning 18 first week of May... but he’ll be with his Mom’s side for that.

Tried my hand at making homemade ice cream again... Vanilla, but I had some actual vanilla bean that I used to flavor the cream. Used some crushed up Heath bars to finish it when I decanted it from the maker. It’s a fairly good sized machine that’ll do a gallon at a time. I only made a half-gallon.

Tee’d off with the #1 Titlist today. Which, was apparently a mistake. Switch to the #3 wood without any better results. At least I’m keeping it on the fairway... Out of sheer frustration, I switched back to the #1 wood and dropped it dead on the pin for the hole. Had the flag not still been there, it would have kept rolling...

Dipping in, quickly, so I don’t forget...

From the 6th tee my drive left me hopeful; my second shot less so. I stayed out of trouble along the way, but chose a 7 iron instead of a 5 iron, and didn’t get enough oomph to reach the green. So, I had to chip on, and that stroke left me in need of a short putt to cap off the hole with a fourth stroke.

So, par, again, here on the 6th, and we roll to the 7th tee with me still at +2 for the round.
