No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Hopefully you will be able to rectify that soon... I really enjoy the company of dogs... more than most people actually...
Interesting points. Research shows that top church attendance is often on Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday. This is consistent with our Spanish-speaking congregation’s attendance.
However, one factor in Ash Wednesday attendance at my parish is that the Spanish Mass is the only one offered after the end of the work day: the latest English Mass starts at 5:30. We could be getting some spillover of people who don’t speak Spanish.
We don’t have any pets right now. It’s weird. Maybe we’re going to move.
I've also been keeping an eye on the rescue organizations up here. For both canids and felines...
Similar view here. I miss my previous dog... Princess Fluffy-butt... Moka. She was part Goldie and died far too soon. Cancer got her just before her 11th birthday (estimated).
UNFORTUNATELY I didn’t get to the 2nd tee before the clock rolled over on the East coast, so... two things:
ONE, I played horribly. Double Bogey. Tried to shave off a stroke driving long to the far right end of that patch of fairway some 300 yards out. My hope was to make a 3-iron second shot some 225 yards over the Ravine Of Remorse wherein flows the Dribble Of Despair to set up a 3rd stroke that would put me on the green. My drive landed where I’d hoped, but bounded clean off the far end of the fairway into the dense foliage, and the rest — I don’t really want to discuss it. That grizzled groundskeeper came upon me down there, and regaled me with terrible tales of the tortured ghosts of golfers gone by that made my flesh creep. The very air seemed heavy, close, and edged with acrid overtones of bituminous dust.
TWO, that means I’ve played today’s wordle, already on a different device, so I need to wait until tomorrow to get a fresh one.
So, I’m on the 3rd tee at 2 OVER, waiting for the stroke of midnight to echo through the halls of our East Coast host.
A gray and white cat is trying to move in with us, but I’m pretty sure he has at least one other home on our street.
Take a nice bowl of yummy cat food. Put it on the neighbor’s front porch.
You should be good.
OK, got you down for a 6 on hole 2, will await your 3rd hole score...
Sounds like it was a very tough one, things are bound to improve!
Double bogey would be a 7 on 2, but... yeah.
Sometimes the world looks better upside down... 🙃
Cats look great doing that. I’d look dumb.
I took the liberty of using 'Face's ping list this morning for this greeting...

PRAISE THE LORD!................
One of the usual wild bunnies we have here passed away in the night.
No visible injuries, just dead in the spot he was hanging out in for the past few days.
Finding a dead bunny on Easter morning is not a good portent.
