Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Thanks!

I’m sure it will, it’s just that I have a hard time when abrasive people are involved in something so important.

I want to get my hair cut sometime between now and two weeks from now, as I want it to look good for when the Other Folks arrive. Not this week though, but maybe next week. The week after, I have an appointment at the pain clinic.

I don’t want to go outside, just yet, but I’ll have to take the trash out when I get back. It will be much warmer, then!

Starter word helped with this one... If one of those letters wasn’t in the front, and it wasn’t in the rear... It really cut down on the number of possible words that had that particular letter in the MIDDLE somewhere...

We have a severe weather alert. We’re supposed to get snow starting around 1pm and going through 1am Friday. I expect to spend some time at M-I-L’s house making sure it is safe for caregivers to enter and exit their vehicles.

*sigh*

About the delay....

It was after noon when we finally got back here, and Carissa came in to visit for a minute because it’s hard for her to drive and hear me and my “new” voice over the engine noise.

The doctor has lowered the BP med that is causing my heartrate to drop and is adding a drug that will open the tiny capillaries around my heart (and possibly the ones in my brain that cause migraines) to see if my heart rate will come back up and altogether allow me a quality of life I haven’t seen for a while. Gloriosky! Could it be??

We stopped at Smith’s and I treated myself to a couple of Vegas Golden Knights clip magnets that were on sale. It’s a good thing because otherwise, they’d still be hanging there!

Getting home so late made it hard for me to realize the actual time when I did get here, so lunch didn’t happen until after my groceries were delivered, about an hour from when I got home. Carissa had just left when the groceries showed up.

The student doctor wasn’t there but the doc was crowding my space as badly as he was, but I don’t have to go back until March, so I’ll try to live with it. The doctor seems to think that everyone with graying hair is deaf, so she almost sits on top of the patient and shouts in their face when she talks.

I have no idea how to even address that problem!

Anyway, it was a nice day and a nice drive and being with Carissa is always a pleasant experience, so I’ll take the warts along with the happy stuff!

So it’s that time of day now, and I’ll be fixing Chip’s food in a bit.

Carissa asked me when the Other Folks were coming and I had to pull up the email from May to get the itinerary for them. Dec 21. Wow. It’s almost here!! And they’ll be here that entire week until the 27th. I hope those pills do what they’re supposed to do so I can clean house!

So now, I’m off to do the evening chores, as it were, and I’ll see all y’all in the morning!

Have a good night, all of you!

I’m sorry about your severe weather alert, and hope it doesn’t do anything drastic to the interwebs or power.

You’re always very thoughtful and caring when it comes to your extended family, so I’ll say an extra prayer for all of you! I can’t do much of anything else!

Be safe!

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

The snow arrived later in the day than foreguessed so I didn’t shovel last night. I did get up at 0430 today so I could shovel before the day started. It’s snowing somewhat steadily now so I hope it’s not too bad by 9am when the changing of the guard happens. We’ve set the garage up so the caregivers can park in there and not slip in the snow in the driveway, but I still don’t want it too deep for the cars.

The Princess was groomed and looks great (as usual). She doesn’t like wearing her booties but I didn’t want snow packed in her pads, especially since the fur in there was trimmed. So on they went. She got all her “business” done quickly but she walks funny when they’re on.

Not a bad Wordle, but I really thought my 3rd guess was a good one.

Sweet Christmas present for someone!

Good morning. I hope you slept well.

I woke up shortly after 2200 and took a pain pill, stayed up for about 40 minutes and went back to sleep. I woke up again a little after 0400, turned over and went back to sleep until 0605. That time was well slept!

It’s pill sorting day, but outside of that, nothing is happening. Maybe this time next week, I can also clean out the closet in the living room and get that space done up like it’s supposed to be.

I don’t sleep all through the night any more, but I sure wish I did. It’s just too hard to get up at 0500 every day.

Good morning. It’s sunny here and not as cold. I’m working on organizing some music for the choir, and later, I’ll go over to the church and make copies instead of doing it here.

Before I got up from here to get busy, I heard a tiny cat cry. I’d heard it before, but couldn’t really place it. Sometimes, I hear it at night but today it lasted for quite some time.

It was actually Chip, even though it sounded like it was coming from outside. The best I could do was go over to his corner and lean over the arm of the sofa to talk to him. But it sounded as if he was really in distress. I couldn’t help him. I was afraid to reach for him. So I talked to him quietly for a few minutes and that seemed to work.

I got the pills sorted, and then began to do change out the litter box. What a messy cat he is!! LOL! Job done!

Next thing up, I wanted to clean up the area so I could display the Nativities and got out my feather duster and went to work. Of course, I still have to dust the book shelves to make make room for the smaller Nativities, but it will be tomorrow before any of it is done.

I took Woody off the frog and leaned him against it and decided I like it that way, so for the next while, he’ll be “sleeping on the job.” I’ll pose Buzz close by so he is reprimanding Woody and see if anyone notices anything different!

Carissa is going to bring me some pinenuts!

Maybe Chip just wanted some attention, and that’s what he sounds like. DP cooks with pine nuts sometimes.
