Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I try to nap in the dentist chair. It depends on what they’re doing in my mouth, though.

As long as the hot water holds up, nothing wrong with a little pampering in the shower.

Exactly. I have the water set at Lobster, so I only have to add just a little cold to it to make it last as long as I want.

I have a little folding chair that is padded (yay!) and stores up against the wall, so until my legs are stronger, I can sit and just let the water fall and warm me up. It helps to have a flex-hose on it, as well! So I'll heat the Me up quite well!

Back from the dentist. I could watch the Great British Baking Show on the screen on the ceiling.

How interesting! I like that show because it shows the weak spots of the bakers and how they swallow their pride and want to try again.

I don’t know that I’d be so brave!

Yep... Dropped my riding boots off at an honest to the Gods cobbler for some repairs. Rode Abby down there. Stopped in and chatted with my parents for a couple of hours.

It was a good day.

Also the Nothing Bundt Cakes shop, because it’s Kathleen’s Birthday Observed - not to be confused the Kathleen’s birthday, which is the same day as James’s birthday.

I gave up on not having a good sleep, and just went back to bed after the worst of the night was over. It’s the least I could do for those involved.

I need to put up more water this morning, but I’m not very enthusiastic about it. I need to take my pills, and the nasty stuff that passes for medicine. Whoever invented it was doing a disservice to Mankind!

I also need to write to Charlie and try to clean the print heads Unngh. Maybe I can get something done other than those two jobs.

I didn’t sleep well either. A certain family member took over the middle of my bed and all the blankets after his midnight trip outdoors.

I was able to get a little very fitful sleep on an uncovered ⅓ of the bed and bandana sized bit of blanket, but soon my uncovered legs chilled and cramped up.

Good thing he’s cute...

Good morning (barely). Happy Friday!

Sorry for being so tardy. The owrk came in thick and fast this morning.

It’s a bit chillier today than it has been. According to the professional seers, we’ll get some real cold over the weekend, then back to warmer temps. I think I saw 50 in next week’s prophecy.

I was really in the wrong head space for today’s Wordle. I should have made that last guess a lot sooner.
